The M S Ramaiah Institute of Technology (MSRIT) was founded in 1962 by the late Dr. M S Ramaiah, our founding chairman. Dr. Ramaiah was a well-known visionary, philanthropist, and pioneer in the development of numerous significant infrastructure projects in India. Dr. M. S. Ramaiah saw the need for bright engineers to develop a new India and envisioned MSRIT as an institution of excellence offering high-quality education at a reasonable price. As a member of the Gokula Education Foundation, MSRIT has developed over the years with substantial contributions from numerous professionals serving in various positions. Dr. M S Ramaiah has successfully led the school through its early years thanks to his own personal devotion. Today, MSRIT is one of India's top institutions for engineering education and has turned out about 35,000 engineers.

On August 4, 1962, Dr. M.S. Ramaiah, a prominent philanthropist, visionary, industrialist, and advocate for education, founded MSRIT. It offered Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering disciplines, with Prof. C.R. Ramachandran serving as the first Principal.
In 1963, Prof. Y. A. Prahalada Rao assumed leadership of the Mechanical Engineering department as HOD, a position he held until 1977. In 1971, he was appointed Principal, and with the assistance of a committed teaching team, he successfully ran the Institute.
In 1971, a five-year integrated course in civil engineering was launched under the direction of Professor M. Venkata Krishnaiah.
