Cancer has a crucial impact on societies, in the United States and across the world. Although WHO and world communities have aligned to overcome this crucial health issue, the efforts are not adequate. The campaign with the theme ‘Close The Care Gap’ has been launched by WHO to address the inequities in cancer treatment and mobilizing communities to fight for equitable access for the period of 2022-2024, but the curve of the cancer graph still remains stiff.

This campaign faced many difficulties from the standpoint of socioeconomic factors and biases based on age, gender, ethnicity, disability, and lifestyle. eMedEvents solemnly shows support for the "5k Challenge" initiated by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) by participating in sports activities like running, cycling, swimming, walking, and hiking.

Understanding Cancer
Cancer is a condition when a few of the body's cells grow out of control and spread to other bodily regions. It can begin anywhere in the body and spread to other organs, posing a serious threat to life. Cancerous tumors can move to remote regions of the body to generate ...
... new tumors. Cancer cases are the highest in developed countries where populations have the highest life expectancy, education level, and standard of living

Challenging statistics
Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. The statistics show that about 18.1 million cancer cases were detected around the world in 2020 and predicted that there will be 27.5 million new cases of cancer each year by 2040 worldwide. Each year, approximately 400 000 children develop cancer. Cervical cancer is the most common in 23 countries.

Common types of cancer
The most common types of cancer in men are lung, prostate, colorectal, stomach, and liver, whereas breast, colorectal, lung, cervical, and thyroid cancer are the most common among women.

Causes of cancer
There is no known cause of cancer, but according to studies, there may be contributing elements from the individual's genetic, environmental, or constitutional traits, such as their exposure to chemicals or other substances, as well as their actions.

Lifestyle:

Rapidly changing lifestyle is assumed as one of the key factors for cancer. Lifestyle choices are major risk factors for adult cancer that include smoking, excess alcohol consumption, high-fat diet, exposure to the sun, unsafe sex, and close working with toxic chemicals.

Family history, inheritance, and genetic factors:

A family history of certain cancers can be a sign of a possible inherited cancer syndrome. It's possible that mutations can pass from one generation to the next.

Age:

Cancer can be diagnosed at any age, but the overall incidence rate steadily rises with age. According to the most recent statistical data from NCI’s Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program, the median age of a cancer diagnosis is 66 years. That means advancing age is the most important risk factor for cancer overall and for many individual cancer types.

Genetic disorders:

Cancer is a genetic disease. It is caused by harmful changes (mutations) in the genetic messages (genes) which control the growth and division of cells. About 5 to 10 percent of cancers are thought to be hereditary.

Environmental factors:

As per research, childhood cancer has a direct link with pesticides, fertilizers, and power lines.

Chemicals in your home or workplace, such as asbestos and benzene, also are associated with an increased risk of cancer. Passive smoking and air pollution raise the risk of cancer.

High-dose chemotherapy and radiation:

Exposure to radiation and Certain medical procedures, such as chest x-rays, computed tomography (CT) scans, positron emission tomography (PET) scans, and radiation therapy can also cause cell damage that leads to cancer.

Cancer Prevention:
Although the exact reasons for cancer are unknown, cancer risk can be reduced by following deeds.

Quit tobacco
Maintain healthy body weight
Healthy diet- Including fruit and vegetables
Regular exercise
Avoiding alcohol consumption
Vaccination against recommended diseases ( such as HPV, Hepatitis B)
Avoiding ultraviolet radiation (excess exposure to the sun and artificial tanning devices)
Ensuring safe and appropriate use of radiation in health care (for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes)
Minimizing occupational exposure to ionizing radiation
Reducing exposure to outdoor air pollution and indoor air pollution, including radon (a radioactive gas or elements produced from uranium)
