3 Easy Treks In Nepal
Three Easy Treks in Nepal
Not all trekking in the Himalayas are strenuous and rough. It could be a pleasant and memorable holiday. The extensions of roads, airstrips and helicopter services have made it possible to visit the hidden Shangri-la of the Himalaya with comfortable stay. Walk comfortable distances at your one pace and spend more time in cultural immersion activities or enjoying the charismatic view of the Himalayas.
How difficult are easy treks in Nepal?
Easy treks are like an active holiday with gentle walking and comfortable stay. We will drive or fly to the highest point and just do the more gradual walking at our own pace. The trail mostly follows a contour with ups and downs of about 100 m. Each day’s walking will be about 5hrs with gradual altitude gain of about 400 m. Altitude ranges between 1500 to 3500 m. Trails are wide (not vertiginous) and maintained with occasional rugged beaten paths, stone paved and steps. Boutique luxury lodges with authentic decors and architectural blends keep us warm and comfortable.
1) Short trek around Pokhara
Short trek around Pokhara visits ...
... the popular viewpoints and charming villages in the northern foothills of the Annapurna. We can drive to the ridge top and just do the scenic and easy walking for about 3 days. There are several starting and ending points depending upon how long you want to walk each day ? Australian camp (2060 m), Dhampus and Astam are popular villages with magnificent views of the Himalayas. Availability of lodges and resorts with proper beds and en-suite bathroom make the trek more comfortable.
2) Mardi Himal Trek
Mardi Himal Trek is another easy trek in Nepal. While many other trails in the Himalayas undulate from the valley basin to the ridge top, Mardi Himal trek follows the ridge climbing gradually. The trek is also the closest trail from Pokhara making it easy to access and also doable in a short time span. Within a week’s time one can explore the alpine landscape overlooking the Annapurna massif and back down to the subtropical greenery of Pokhara.
Mardi Himal Heli Hiking
Being close to Pokhara moderate in altitude, Mardi Himal trek is also a popular destination for heli hiking in Nepal. The 15 minutes helicopter ride will take you to the altitude of 3,500 m. Enjoy the stunning view above the clouds and start heading down through the Rhododendron forest. Spend a couple of nights in the mountains and then drive back to Pokhara.
3) Everest cultural trek
The Everest cultural trek is another short and easy trek in Nepal. The high altitude and the remoteness of Everest region make it more challenging than other treks. But availability of luxury lodges makes the trek more comfortable. Everest cultural trek could be planned for 6 to 8 days. A STOL aircraft like a twin otter will take you to Lukla at 2,800 m from where the trek begins. The trail follows the Bhote Koshi River upstream and then climbs about 600 m to Namche bazaar in two days. Explore the higher reaches for 360 degree view of the Himalayas with Mt Everest and immerse into Sherpa culture. Khumjung village at the base of their holy mountain Khumbilla is one of the lively Sherpa villages to experience their day to day life. Visit the Edmund Hilary School and the local monastery where they preserve the Yeti skull.
Everest Heli Hiking
Short Everest trek is also popular for Heli hiking. The helicopter will take you for Everest sightseeing and land near the base camp. Fly back to the lower altitude and start walking back to Lukla to catch the regular flight back to Kathmandu. Availability of comfortable lodges and the regular helicopter on sharing basis, Everest trek could be customized as an easy trek in Nepal.
