Type Of Freelance Work: Onsite And Offsite
When you are working as a freelancer or having freelancers job for you there are usually two modes in which work can happen, Onsite and Offsite. In the case of Onsite, you have freelancers working for you at your desired location while on Offsite the freelancers stay in their desired location and work in their comfort zones. Both have some positives as well as negatives and we will discuss them today. Let’s start with Off-site freelancing which is the most common and popular type of freelancing.
Offsite Freelancing
There is nothing like sitting on the couch and munching away on chips in your pyjamas while running those codes on the laptop. The convenience is just unmatched though it might be thoroughly unprofessional but since when did freelancing focus on show business? It’s all about submitting error-free work on time and it really doesn’t matter if you developed the application sitting on the soft couch or the hard vitreous china. The application is working as the client wanted and the job is done. Thumbs up.
That’s the essence of offsite freelancing, isn’t it? Working according to my convenience ...
... at my desired pace and location. However, sometimes clients look for periodical accountability so that they can keep track of the progress. They would like to get their money’s worth and would be against attending personal calls in an hourly paid contract. If the pay rate is quite high they would want you in front of them and are highly likely to back out from working with freelancers who are vocal about working from home. Some take professionalism too seriously and want you to attend even one-on-one calls with them from home in a formal outfit with a tie and boots. We think it depends on the pay. Money talks and since time unknown humanity has gone to distances unknown, all for cash.
Onsite Freelancing
The less popular among freelancers but a too alluring option for the clients where they want you to sit in a cubicle at their place and are happy to pay the electric bill just to see you toil 8-9 hours a day. They smirk when they see those armpits getting wet from sweat and make sure they come over to your desk and hem in to destroy the sanctity of your workplace to keep a track of the progress you are making on the job they assigned.
Onsite freelancing may seem like attending a regular office but you still have a lot of cards you can hold on to. The contract is still short-term, you can choose to simply terminate them if the inconvenience is too much and you still get to negotiate payment terms. You have regular employees being jealous of your break time but you get to experience the office culture. Discipline is a virtue that you get for free with onsite freelancing.
