The diverse South Side of Chicago is a large and diverse area, boasting a rich African-American history. Besides being the birthplace of famous writers, musicians and politicians, including former president Barak Obama, it has rich cultural and social offerings. It is also renowned for several acclaimed diverse medical institutions.
The South Side is home to an acclaimed Dermatology practice that received international accolades for research in ethnic dermatology and prides itself on delivering exceptional service to patients of colour, specifically focusing on darker skin tones. With only 3% of dermatologists in America being people of colour, there is still a great divide and many opportunities for education in diverse skin care.
The insightful multi-disciplinary recommendations made for patients with visible skin disorders by award-winning dermatologists on the south side of Chicago are the first step on the path to healing, recovery and clear skin.
A proudly physician-owned independent dermatological practice delivers quality medical services and exemplary advice to patients, with extended consultations, ...
... and an empathetic approach, showing real interest in the problems that patients are faced with.
Collections of superior quality medically approved skin care products are available for the treatment of patients, with online purchases available for added convenience. Reputable dermatologists, to assist with healing, do essential skincare coaching. Individualized skin care programs are developed by well-trained staff, suited for each patient’s unique needs.
It is imperative to contact a dermatologist regarding skin concerns for conditions such as rosacea, acne or eczema. As part of a comprehensive service and great patient care, they are also equipped to advise on regular day-to-day routines and recommend a suitable and sustainable treatment plan to assist with healing, and keeping the skin in peak condition. Staying ahead of the curve, they sometimes even recommend inexpensive off-the-shelf products as part of the maintenance plan.
Dermatological skincare routines do not involve rubbing, scrubbing and picking at the skin. Besides not solving anything, it will cause irreversible harm. They do however recommend a much gentler and more practical approach, with regular daily routines. Although a cleansing brush is recommended for gentle exfoliation, removing dirt, bacteria and makeup from the skin, beware of hard bristles, as this may cause redness and sensitivity.
A mild cleanser works wonders on inflamed skin, and will not strip the natural oils, stimulating the skin to secrete more oil. Dermatologists advise increasing the cleaning routine to make sure all dirt is removed thoroughly.
A gentle low alcohol toner with glycolic or salicylic acid should be used in the morning and evening after cleansing, balancing the pH and soothing inflamed, red skin. It will also prevent dead cells from clogging the pores.
Do not pick, poke, or pop any bumps on the face or body, to avoid the risk of permanent marks. Apply spot treatment for drying out infected areas. It will also assist in alleviating inflammation. Acne-clearing masks, peels and skin care devices help reduce redness and have restorative qualities.
The liberal use of a dermatologically approved, oil-free, non-comedogenic sunscreen is not negotiable. Oil glands in the skin are stimulated by the sun, excessive heat and humidity. They become overactive and in extreme cases, are the trigger for acne.
According to reliable scientific research, acne breakouts are aggravated by the excessive intake of sugar, high-glycemic foods, white rice, white bread, pasta, potatoes, as well as milk. Dermatologists highly recommend a diet rich in antioxidants, including fruits, vegetables, nuts, green and black tea and fish, supplemented with natural medicinal products, for patients with problematic skin.
Combined treatments using more than one strategy are often very successful. Dermatologists recommend the use of topical medication, such as BHA, benzoyl peroxide and azelaic acid, Combined with the use of a LED device to penetrate the skin, causing a variety of reactions, by targeting different issues. This will result in tissue repair and speed up the healing process. Bacteria and inflammation are targeted by the energy of the LED device, while collagen production is stimulated.
Because skin repairs itself during the sleeping process, producing collagen and healing wounds, it is the perfect anecdote. A simple, but great recipe for healthy skin is plentiful rest, using a superior quality hydrating moisturizer and drinking enough water.
Many factors come into play when unlocking the secret of beautiful skin. Genes, a disciplined daily routine, the quality of formulations used on the skin, the amount of rest and hydration, stress and dietary factors all play a significant role in the overall quality of the skin. Dermatologists can provide patients with informed strategies for sustainable healthy and beautiful skin.
