Chooks 3×3 taps Liman head trainer to be teams’ active consultant
By hiring Liman head coach Milan Isakov to be an active consultant for their teams next season, Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 is stepping up its preparations for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris and the Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

Isakov, 35, was the head coach of Russia during the most recent Olympic cycle and guided both the men’s and women’s teams of Russia to silver at the Tokyo Olympics in addition to helping Liman reach the world no. 2 ranking. “I believe that what I bring to this situation is the wisdom that I gained from my prior experiences. Because of the players’ enthusiasm and skill, what I’ve witnessed so far has been far beyond my expectations “Isakov stated.

3×3 Basketball World Tour Riyadh 2022: Riga beats Ub in a nail-biting final
On Saturday in Saudi Arabia, Latvia’s Nauris Miezis, an Olympic gold medalist, made a pair of clutch two-pointers to secure the victory (12 November).

With a spirited 21-19 victory over Ub Huishan NE in the FIBA 3×3 Basketball World Tour Riyadh Masters championship game on Saturday in Saudi Arabia, World Tour 2020 champions Riga ended their winless streak (12 November).

Nauris Miezis ultimately clinched the victory with two clutch two-pointers, earning the Latvian star the most valuable player honor. Riga, which is comprised of the Olympic gold-medal winning team from Latvia, Edgars Krumins, Karlis Lasmanis, Miezis, and Agnis Cavers, won their third World Tour championship this year.

Riga dominated the opening exchanges, forcing Ub Huishan NE of Serbia, who entered the final seeking their fifth championship of the year, to play catch-up. Before Ub eventually registered a goal, Riga established a 5-0 lead thanks to world No. 1 player Strahinja Stojacic.

The game turned into a point-for-point struggle as the Serbians got up to Riga, with only one point standing between the teams until the very end. With time running out, a Stojacic one-point shot allowed Ub to ultimately take the lead 18-17.

Before Miezis hit back-to-back two-pointers, Ub appeared poised to further solidify their position atop the overall World Tour rankings. The first was a buzzer-beater to seal the win, and the second was to retake the lead. In addition to delivering the decisive blow, Miezis scored 10 points for his squad.

The Riyadh Masters offered as a final opportunity to earn points toward qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games before next month’s circuit final in Abu Dhabi (10-11 December). Before November 1, 2023, all FIBA 3×3 Federation Ranking points will start to count toward qualification for the world championship.

The first three quota spaces for Paris and eligibility for later Olympic Qualifying Tournaments will be decided by the Federation Ranking list, which is based on the points accrued by a National Olympic Committee’s top 25 national players competing in FIBA-endorsed competitions.
