South Indian Groom Outfit Ideas For All Ceremonies

South Indian grooms attract as much attention as their stunning leading ladies, who have the wedding outfit for grooms completely smitten. Our hearts are captured by South Indian brides, but grooms are no less charming these days, and their simplicity has us swooning. In India, weddings and fashion go hand in hand. This is the time of year when fashion in film becomes popular. We all want to look like celebrities at our weddings, and wearing the best groom outfit is a big part of that.
Gone are the days when brides were the only ones concerned about their wedding attire. Modern grooms, too, strive to look fashionable on their wedding day. They're not far behind when it comes to getting facials, manicures, and pedicures, as well as picking out their wedding gown. They are not afraid to ditch voguish outfits in favour of traditional kurta over cotton vests and Mundu while maintaining a hip and elegant appearance. Grooms who opt for a more traditional look on their wedding day should dress bolder and more modern on the day of their reception.
South Indian Groom Outfit Ideas for Different Ceremonies
Each region ...
... has its own traditional attire. This can be a daunting experience, but it also provides an opportunity to learn more about one's own rich culture. Your wedding attire reveals a lot about you. Here are some suggestions for what to wear to your wedding or reception. Allow us to introduce you to these intriguing South Indian wedding trends, as well as Indian groom wedding attire.
Nischitartham
In South Indian weddings, this is the engagement, also known as Nischitartham. The rituals begin early, with the Nischay Tamulam ceremony (usually held during the engagement), in which the families decide on a wedding date. At this ceremony, the couple exchanges rings, and the groom dresses modestly in a Sherwani or a Dhoti Kurta. Another option is to pair a Kurta with a Nehru Jacket. A traditional Kurta-pajama, on the other hand, could be an excellent choice for an Indian groom outfit at a traditional engagement ceremony.
Odugu
Odugu (Upanayanam/Brahmopadesam) is a significant event in the lives of Brahmins, Kshatriyas, and Vaishyas. The sacred thread ceremony marks the end of a boy's childhood and his entry into adulthood prior to marriage. He is dressed in a traditional dhoti with a cotton and silk-blend vest at first. Later, he changes into a yellow/mustard cotton dhoti and shawl, which are both traditional attire.
Snathakam
Snathakam is performed at the groom's residence either on the morning of the wedding or a few hours before the Muhurtam (auspicious time). The groom is required to wear a silver holy thread throughout the ceremony as part of the ritual. He's dressed in a traditional Dhoti-shawl ensemble made of Kanchi-silk or Pattu material. This is one of the most popular hairstyles for an Indian groom.
Kashi Yatra
The Snathakam is quickly followed by Kashi Yatra, a joyous celebration. This is a traditional practise in which the groom pretends to leave and declines the marriage proposal. And the bride's father and brother step in to convince him to marry. The groom dresses in the same attire as he did for the Snathakam, but with a few embellishments! The outfit is completed by a pair of traditional wooden slippers, an umbrella, and a canvas bag.
Pelli
When it comes to wedding or Pelli attire, India has a plethora of traditional options. However, golden and rich silk fabric can be found at most South Indian weddings. The groom is dressed in a dhoti, vest, and a silk wrap. The fabric is usually silk or Kanchi Pattu. After the initial ceremony and Jeelakarra-Bellam, the groom changes into white cotton dhotis.
Vratham
The Vratham is the final function after the wedding. A priest and a newlywed couple are performing a Pooja. They pray as a married couple in the Vratham. For this occasion, the South Indian groom wears a traditional kurta and dhoti/Pyjama/ white lungi with golden border, or a dhoti with a vest and fabric wrapped around him. The couple is now legally married!
What you should know before choosing the groom's wedding attire
When it comes to menswear, fit is more important than style. In contrast to the Indian bride, who is frequently required to wear red on her wedding day, there is no such strict requirement for the Indian groom's attire. He should, of course, choose a colour that complements his skin tone. For Indian groom attire, pure silk, tussar, silk brocades, rich velvets, resham jamdanis, or gorgeous raw silks should be used. In order to match the glam factor of his bride's outfit, he must choose an outfit made of these fabrics.
Furthermore, because most grooms do not wear jewellery, there is no need to be concerned about the design of your jewellery clashing with the work on the bodice of your kurta. Choose an outfit with rich and exquisite embellishments to match the grandeur of your bride's lehenga or saree.
