How Much Does A 20×20 Paver Patio Cost?
The cost for a “20× 20” paver patio is estimated at between $4,000 and $10,000, but material choices and labor can greatly impact the cost.
A rough estimate puts the cost of a “20×20” (or 400 square foot (ca. 37 m²)) paver patio at between $4,000 and $10,000.
The cost of a new paver patio can double depending on the material choice or who is doing the work. This article will look at all aspects of creating a paver patio and where the money is going for each step.
As an avid gardener, I have spent my fair share of time pondering what materials to use in my own garden. I now use my research skills and experience to help you do the same for your space.
Size
Your paver installation cost will typically range from $10 to $30 per square foot. For higher-end paving stones, prices might be as much as $50 per square foot. Below is a paver cost estimator based on some of the most common patio sizes.
Square Footage Average Range High Cost
6×10 (60 sq. ft.) $480 – $1,500 ~$3,000
8×12 (96 sq. ft.) $768 – $2,400 ~$4,800
10×10 (100 sq. ft.) $800 – ...
... $2,500 ~$5,000
10×16 (160 sq. ft.) $1,280 – $4,000 ~$8,000
10×20 (200 sq. ft.) $1,600 – $5,000 ~$10,000
14×20 (280 sq. ft.) $2,240 – $7,000 ~$14,000

Other Cost of a Paver Patio
So you’ve decided on the type of paver you want to use. Now, how much will everything else cost?
Luckily, gravel and sand are fairly inexpensive. Costs in your area will vary, but for a “20×20” area I have calculated the cost of gravel at roughly $780 while the cost of sand will be about $80.
Finally, it is time to look at the labor costs. Of course, you could do the work yourself. If you are a handy person or just very determined, then have at it. But I have set a permeable paver walkway and let me tell you, it’s hard. If you can afford it, pay someone to do it. If they are experienced, then they will do it faster, and it will look better in the end. Especially if you are splashing out on something really nice like flagstone, you might as well spend the extra money to make it beautiful.
Porch.com, a site that helps you find home maintenance professionals, says it will cost about $80 to $1000 an hour for labor to set up a paver patio. Or an estimated $10 to $120 per square foot. So labor costs for our sample patio could be anywhere from $2,900 to $5,900.
When you combine all the elements needed to create a paver patio of “20×20” then the price could range from $5,925 to $30,000. But keep in mind that the highest cost is using the most expensive flagstone and the most expensive labor. So the estimate of $4,000 to $10,000 is still a good guide when setting your budget for the paver patio of your dreams.
Why Would You Want a Paver Patio?
Paver patios are great for any place you can’t put a deck. Decks are usually attached to a house or other structure, while paver patios just sit on the ground’s surface. Therefore, they can be next to a house and used much like a deck, but they can also be in a separate and detached area. You might also want a paver patio because of the wide variety of styles and materials that can be used. A paver patio can be something fancy like marble tiles or something rustic like irregular slate stones, whereas most decks are wood.
Does a Patio Add Value to Your Home?
Yes, a patio can add value to your home. Having a patio provides you with an outdoor space that is perfect for entertaining, relaxing, and enjoying the outdoors. It can also be an attractive feature for prospective buyers, as it adds an attractive, functional space to your property. Additionally, a patio can also be a great investment, as it adds usable square footage to your property. If you choose to build one, you can customize it in any style you like, and it can easily become the focal point of your backyard.
Depending on the design and size of the patio, it may also increase the resale value of your home.
Finally, a patio can also be a great way to improve the visual appeal of your home. It can create a beautiful backdrop to your outdoor space and can add an inviting, aesthetic charm. You can also add outdoor furniture and other decorative items to create an inviting outdoor living area.
In conclusion, a patio is an excellent addition to any home and can be beneficial in multiple ways. Adding one can make your house more usable, create a beautiful outdoor space, and potentially increase its value.
What is the Easiest type of Patio to put in?
The easiest type of patio to put in would likely be one that uses concrete pavers or outdoor tiles. They are considered the simplest and least labour-intensive type of patio to install. Afterward, lay all the pavers and tiles onto a sand bed, and mark and level the area for the patio. If desired, an edging material such as bricks or stones can be used around the perimeter. This setup is more stable, easier to work with, and requires relatively little maintenance. Pavers and outdoor tiles are also available in many styles and colors, so it’s possible to create a patio that is unique.
Paver Patio Cost: Types Of Materials
The cost of a paver patio can be affected by the type of material you choose. There are three main types of pavers: brick, concrete, and stone.
Brick Pavers: The cost of brick pavers is between $20 and $35 per square foot. Brick pavers have a higher price tag than concrete, but they are more durable and have a longer lifespan.
Concrete Pavers: The cost of concrete pavers is between $15 and $25 per square foot. Although concrete pavers are more affordable than bricks or stones, they aren’t as durable.
Natural Stone Pavers: The cost of natural stone pavers is between $25 and $45 per square foot. The most durable option is stone pavers, but they are also the most expensive.
Choosing a patio paver requires considering its cost and durability. By doing this, you can find the right paver for your needs and budget.
