Rowers to watch at Paris 2024
Fintan McCarthy and Paul O’Donovan’s victory in the men’s lightweight double sculls and Stefanos Ntouskos’ victory in the single sculls represent two of the most touching moments from Tokyo 2020. Both countries won their first gold medals in rowing.

With one gold and two bronze medals from Tokyo 2020, Chinese athletes also had a podium appearance. They will once again be ones to watch in Paris 2024.
Great Britain, one of the world’s leading rowing nations, only managed to win two medals in Tokyo, and the US returned home empty-handed when the women’s eight finished fourth in their attempt to capture a fourth straight gold medal.
Hugo Boucheron and Matthieu Androdias, who had already won the world championship in the double sculls in 2018, finished just ahead of People’s Republic of China in the medal standings. Laura Tarantola and Claire Bove, who were both young enough to compete in their home Games, took home a silver medal in the women’s lightweight double sculls. Italy’s Valentina Rodini and Federica Cesarini, who won gold by just 0.14 seconds in Tokyo, could challenge them there.
Ancuta Bodnar and Simona Radis of Romania easily won the gold medal in the double sculls. They should be around for Paris and beyond because they are both 22 years old.
The Netherlands’ young crew set a world record to win the men’s quadruple sculls. After brothers Martin and Valent Sinkovic created history in Tokyo by adding a gold medal in the pairs to their double sculls victory from Rio 2016, Croatia also wants to recreate its greatest Olympic rowing memories.
