Common Questions About Teeth Whitening
Common Teeth Whitening FAQs
How do I know if Teeth Whitening is for me?
Teeth whitening is generally safe and effective for you and is a great way to improve the appearance of your smile and positively affect your confidence.
We have a thorough consultation processes before any whitening treatment is done, to analyse if you’re a suitable candidate and discuss all options openly with you.
Why do dentists charge more for Teeth Whitening than other people in the community?
Prices will vary in the community for a couple of reasons, the reasons are as follows:
the type of material used for bleaching
the concentration of the material provided
the amount of whiting gel provided to you for home use following your treatment
Don’t be fooled by cheap prices. There are always hidden charges when you get the procedure done. People who perform teeth whitening procedures that are not dental professionals can seriously harm your teeth.
Our team is highly qualified and trained, this eliminates any potential problems such as a lack of infection control or careless product application.
How ...
... white will my teeth go?
Our results usually provide a change of 8 to 12 shades whiter than your natural shade. We provide safe treatments and deliver high quality results. Unfortunately, it is difficult to know exactly how your teeth will respond. However our results speak for themselves.
How long do Teeth Whitening results last?
On average you can expect to have whiter teeth for 12 to 24 months after your Teeth Whitening treatment. There is a large variance from person to person and this depends on your lifestyle factors like smoking, consumption of alcohol and frequency of dental visits.
Do I have to do anything special after my Teeth Whitening treatment?
During the first 2 days post Teeth Whitening treatment, the teeth become more susceptible to absorbing stains and therefore it is recommended by the bleaching companies that you avoid foods and drinks such as red wine, coffee, tea and coloured soft drinks.
These risks are minimised by brushing after your Whitening Treatment, as well to get rid of any bleach left on your teeth.
Will Teeth Whitening make my crown, bridge or veneers whiter?
Generally a crown, bridge, veneer (composite and porcelain) or filling will not change colour after having a teeth whitening treatment done. Because the colour of your teeth is so complex sometimes they will appear to become whiter. It is always best for a dentist to discuss your options for you if you are concerned about your teeth not changing colour.
What are the side effects after Teeth Whitening?
Sensitivity to your teeth
During the first day after teeth whitening it is normal to experience sensitivity. The sensitivity is usually mild. We stock an extensive range of bleach to ensure we use the right bleach for you
Gum irritation
Gum irritation may be caused when whitening treatment touches your gums. A burning sensation can occur and this is a very minor problem that will subside quite quickly post treatment. Keeping the area well-hydrated and occasionally using topical anaesthetics will resolve the problem effectively.
Damage to nerves
A problem that we don’t see very often due to our comprehensive exam is that of nerve pain after teeth whitening treatment. If you have decay, a broken tooth or a cracked tooth teeth whitening treatment could lead to nerve pain. As a general rule your dentist will correct these concerns prior to you undergoing any teeth whitening treatment to minimise the risk of any discomfort.
