When you are driving on the road there is a high chance that the traffic guard might have stopped you in the middle of the road for flouting any of the traffic signals. Although the traffic police office cannot pull you over but they can definitely ask you some questions about your driving license and so on. When you encounter such a situation, you need to know how to deal with the situation. You need to know what the traffic officer can do and what are your rights in such a scenario.

What Can a Traffic Officer Do?

A traffic officer has absolute control on the road and you have to follow their instructions.
They can ask you to show your driving license and other documents related to the vehicle.
They have the authority to impound any of the documents in case you have committed any offense.
If they impound any document, they will give you an acknowledgement slip.
They can detain your vehicle if they are not satisfied with the documents shared.
If you have committed any offense on the road, the office has the right to arrest you on spot without ...
... showing any warrant.

What are Your Rights When You are Dealing with a Traffic Police Officer?
If a traffic officer asks you to stop or gives you a signal to pull over, you should immediately stop the car. Show them all the documents, which they want to check and verify.

What are Your Rights if You have Committed an Offence?

Ask for a valid receipt when the traffic officer impounds your document.
If the driver is inside the car, the officer cannot tow away the vehicle.
The officer cannot confiscate your keys nor can he force you to get out of the car.
The male officer can never search or touch a female driver.
If you have violated any laws, you will be taken to the nearest police station. If detained, they need to produce you in the court within 24 hours of arrest.

At any point of time, no matter what the allegation is, do not argue with the officer. Instead you should explain them what has happened. Answer all the queries in a patient and calm manner. You will be taught about all these when you learn driving from a driving school in Indooroopilly. Pay attention during the classes so that you learn everything about driving.
