Best Television Shows To Watch While High
One of the best ways to relax is to light up and watch some television. Whether you're looking for a lighthearted read or something to challenge your mind while high, you'll find it here. Here are ten series that are perfect for binge-watching while high.
South Park
This year marks South Park's silver anniversary, proving that the show has weathered the test of time. Family Guy's rivals, for example, have been around for just as long and are just as progressive. However, South Park is unique in its ability to include timely political and social issues into its episodes.
Sometimes you just want to vegetate on the couch while laughing at something dumb, while other times you want to watch a high-brow comedy. South Park is perfect if you want to watch something that isn't afraid to criticize modern society without fear of repercussions.
Get to know Stan, Kyle, Cartman, Kenny, and the gang as they navigate the challenges of being 10-years-old in a backward town full of crazy people and try to make sense of a world that, while absurdly cartoonish, isn't all that different from the real one. The line between ...
... parody and reality on South Park seems to blur a little more each week, making it something like The Babylon Bee of animated TV shows.
Futurama
The Simpsons, Matt Groening's more popular creation, could have easily made the cut, but we decided to give subsequent iteration more consideration. Futurama caters to true nerds with its science and physics jokes; nevertheless, even if you don't get the Harvard-level quips, the show's characters, premise, and writing will make you laugh out loud.
Futurama, effectively the first animated workplace sitcom, blends a cast of unlikely incompetents as they romp through the galaxy. This includes the bumbling but well-meaning Fry, the senile Professor Farnsworth, and the unscrupulous and blackhearted robot Bender. Planet Express is an interplanetary delivery service whose employees are so incompetent that they have a hard time adapting to the social norms of the future.
To be sure, it's a more cerebral animated series than most, but it's just as funny, sharp, and relevant as any of its acclaimed contemporaries.
Trailer Park Boys
Trailer Park Boys, a concert that has become legendary amongst heavy toker audiences, premiered in 2001 and has been going strong ever since, despite a few minor setbacks.
The show is a parody of documentaries in which its protagonists try and fail at various schemes to earn money in their Nova Scotian trailer park. Jim Lahey, the trailer park administrator and former policeman, is the main enemy. He frequently appears to foil the plans of the protagonists.
It didn't take long for Trailer Park Boys to gain a devoted fan base in the early 2000s. Due in no small part to main character Ricky's weed growing antics, the show has steadily gained a large and dedicated following among stoners. The show is only sporadically scripted and features extensive ad-libs from the talented cast; however, the show's three leads have admitted that many of the show's most memorable moments were improvised.
Cooked With Cannabis
We couldn't make a list of 10 shows to watch while high without including at least one about food. The Netflix series Cooked With Cannabis offers a novel take on the traditional cooking show format. There's a twist, but you'll never guess what it is! Adding cannabis to time-honored recipes? You would definitely tune in, take part in, and recreate this show in your own living room!
The principle is straightforward: three chefs take turns using THC and CBD to create delicious meals. At the end of the series, the studio judges will award $10,000 to the person they have determined to be the gourmet of ganja.
Filmed in California, where marijuana use is legal, the show stars R&B star Kelis and cannabis expert and chef Leather Storrs. Each chef painstakingly prepares a three-course cannabis-infused dinner for a panel of celebrity judges; the winner advances to the next round and competes for a large cash prize.
Weeds
Mary-Louise Parker stars as Nancy Botwin, a suburban housewife and mother who turns to selling marijuana to support her family after her husband dies. Much more like Breaking Bud than Breaking Bad.
Developed by Orange Is the New Black mastermind Jenji Kohan, the series follows a widow who must start a cannabis business in order to continue living the comfortable middle-class life her late husband afforded. As Botwin cultivates her clientele, becomes involved with the criminal underworld, and develops her own strain of marijuana, there are a number of hilarious moments (the superbly-titled MILF strain).
Two Emmys and a Golden Globe were just a few of the accolades bestowed upon the drama/comedy series. Weeds is the perfect show for you if you like to get high and watch shows about people who do. There is a good balance of fact and fiction in the details, as well as high stakes and humorous moments.
Disjointed
Chuck Lorre, the mastermind behind such classic sitcoms as "Two and a Half Men" and "The Big Bang Theory," wrote these shows, and when you add the acting chops of Kathy Bates, you have a winner. Add some marijuana and you've got a program on television. In the film, Bates plays a pro-pot activist who opens her own dispensary in Los Angeles.
The writing is spot-on, which will appeal to stoners, and the humor works whether or not you're high. To top it all off, the show is fervently pro-weed and has wonderful plot lines that support the use of cannabis for medical purposes. The script is rich with interesting tidbits about the history, activism, and culture of cannabis, so cannasseurs of all stripes will find something of interest. As usual, Bates steals the show; it's a bad Netflix pulled the plug after only two seasons. A stoner comedy set in a pot shop? Among the top 10 shows to watch while stoned.
