A Quick Guide To Getting Australian Citizenship

Australia is a centre of astonishing landscapes, amazing biodiversity, and mesmerizing beaches. It's one of the most popular places to explore in the world, where you don't need to look at the calendar when making travel plans. And it is undoubtedly a place you would like to live indefinitely. The country has a booming economy, superb quality of life and a big proportion of expatriates. You must be wondering what is required to gain Australian citizenship, then we have a to-do list for you. Here are the best ways to get citizenship:
By Conferral: To begin with, you must first meet the requirement of staying in Australia on a permanent visa for a period of 4 years. If you are moving to Australia in 2020, you should reside there until 2024. This should include spending one year as a permanent resident. For this step, you must have a status or visa, such as being the parent or partner of an eligible Australian or New Zealand citizen or being eligible for migration based on skills, etc. After this, you need to meet the Australian citizenship requirements:
a) You need to be a permanent citizen when you apply and when ...
... the judgement is passed.
b) Fulfill the residential requirements.
c) Pass the Aussie citizenship test with at least 75% marks; you don't need to take it if you are over 60 years of age.
d) If your age is above 18, you need to show proof of “good character”
e) Continue staying in Australia or have a continuous link with the country.
By Birth: People who are born after August 20, 1986 in Australia aren't automatically given citizenship. It directly depends on the parents’ nationality and residence. For instance, if the child has an Australian resident as a parent, then he or she gets citizenship automatically. If the child’s parents are in Australia on a temporary visa, then the child gets the same visa status as the parents. The child isn’t eligible to be an Australian citizen at that level.
By Adoption: If a child is born outside Australia, but got adopted by an Australian and wishes to apply for citizenship of Australia, the following criteria must be met:
a) The parent must be a former citizen of the country
b) If the child was born in Papua New Guinea before 1975
c) Must have a valid adoption certification
d) At least one parent should be an Australian citizen during the adoption
e) If the child is above 18 years of age, they should show proof of “good character”
f) If the adoptive parent got citizenship via adoption or descent, they must be a resident of the country for at least 2 years.
g) If the person is born in Australia but doesn’t belong to any state.
By Descent: In case one of your parents is an Australian native during birth, the child is eligible for Australian citizenship. The birth country of the child isn’t a factor in this case. The date of birth must be on or after the 26th of January 1949.
Resume Citizenship: If you had Australian citizenship before, you can reclaim it. You need to meet certain conditions, such as having changed citizenship before April 2002, having quit to gain citizenship in another country, having had your citizenship taken away as a child by your parents, and such.
