A storied history can be found beneath Atlantic Station's paved streets and among its historical landmarks. Although the district as we know it today has been in existence for 17 years, there is always something new to discover on campus—both in the past and in the present. Here are five facts about Atlantic Station or Atlanta Millennium Gate that you probably didn't know!

Atlantic Station Was Built On The Site Of An Influential Steel Mill
Atlantic Station is built on the site of the former brownfield Atlantic Steel mill, which opened in 1901. The mill made cotton bale ties and steel hoops before expanding into a variety of other steel-based agricultural necessities.

Although the steel mill officially closed in 1998, Atlantic Station did not open until 2005. History enthusiasts can learn more by visiting our dedicated blog on the subject.

Atlantic Station Isn’t Just A Shopping District
While most of our visitors come to Atlantic Station for lunch or retail therapy, we also have a few hotels, offices, and even living quarters! Consider living in an onsite apartment, condo, or loft if you can't ...
... get enough of the Station. You'll have easy access to all of the district's festivals, sporting events, and pop-up shops, as well as Publix, Target, services like 19th Street Dental, and, of course, all of the district's exceptional shops and restaurants.

You Can Check Out Complimentary Lawn Games At Concierge
Everyone has that one friend who can't seem to sit still. Keep your entire group entertained by hosting your next gathering on Atlantic Green, where Concierge provides free lawn games and board games! A complete list of games can be found here.

Call ahead to have Concierge set your games out ahead of time.

There Are Tons Of Free Events To Attend
While we frequently host ticketed events on-site, we also host a plethora of free events just for you, our devoted community members! Join us for a free hour-long wellness class hosted by atl kula every Wednesday in the spring, summer, and fall. Every Friday in June, we host a live concert featuring a different band. Screen on the Green, our bi-weekly outdoor movie viewing parties, returns in the summer. Remember to check out our holiday programming, which includes Light the Station, an annual Lunar New Year celebration, and much more!

One Of The City’s Most Prolific Artists Creates Her Work On-Site
Small Doors ATL, the well-known public art project that places teeny tiny doors throughout the city, is actually based right here at the Station! Karen Anderson-Singer's studio is open to fans on a monthly basis, where they can see retired doors and even shop fun march.

In addition, Atlantic Station has two tiny doors of its own! Can you find both of them?

3 Reasons To Visit The Millennium Gate Museum This Fall
We're fortunate at Atlantic Station to have many shops, services, and restaurants within walking distance of our living and working quarters. We also have easy access to a number of outstanding attractions, such as the Millennium Gate Museum.

The Millennium Gate Museum is a world-class art and history museum where visitors can learn about Georgia's past through advanced interactive technology, film, period rooms, and special exhibitions. Its mission is to preserve and interpret Georgia's history, art, culture, and philanthropic heritage, as well as to highlight the state's historical and aesthetic significance to the country and the world.

Here are three compelling reasons to pay a visit to The Millennium Gate Museum this fall.

Explore The “Many Lives Of Andrew Young” Exhibit
Andrew Young is a well-known Atlantan who has long served the city (you may recognise his name from your recent drive downtown on Andrew Young International Boulevard!). In honour of Young's 90th birthday in March 2022, The Millennium Gate Museum unveiled an exhibit featuring photos and memorabilia from the ten stages of his life thus far: boyhood, minister, Civil Rights icon, congressman, UN Ambassador, Mayor of Atlanta, Centennial Olympic Games presenter, businessman, philanthropist, and documentarian.

Every Atlantan would benefit from learning more about the influential Young and how his work has impacted so many people in the region.

Find Inspiration For School Assignments
The Millennium Gate Museum has so much to teach you! The museum's design is immediately recognisable as a study in classic Roman triumphal arches. Its eye-catching design earned it a prestigious Palladio Award in 2006 for "best design of a public space."

When you enter the 12,000-square-foot interior space, you'll be greeted by displays and relics representing Atlanta and Georgia's rich histories. Don't miss The Glenn Gallery, which pays tribute to Atlantic Station's incredible history!

Other highlights include The 18th Century Georgia Pioneer Gallery, which transports visitors to a simpler time (no 8-lane highways), and The Tocqueville Corridor, which introduces visitors to the history of philanthropy in the United States and its connections to Georgia. There are three distinct period rooms to enjoy, as well as several other galleries to explore.

Whether you or your child is researching for a history class, art class, or English class, The Millennium Gate Museum can be a great source of inspiration for any project or paper.

Support A Worthy Cause
The Millennium Gate Museum is a 501(c)(3) charitable organisation. That means that every dollar you spend at the institution supports its mission. Your visit to The Millennium Gate Museum will help preserve Georgia and Atlanta history for future generations!
