Tips For Last Week Of Cat Preparation
The Common Admission Test, or CAT, is one of the most difficult tests to pass and is probably the most feared exam in our country.
The CAT is now an online computer-based test with two sections:
• Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation
• Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning
Each section contains 30 questions, and both sections must be completed sequentially, i.e. Quant and DI must be completed first. An on-screen timer keeps track of the sectional time limit of 70 minutes.
As a result, a CAT aspirant cannot select the preferred section to solve first. Furthermore, once the candidate has completed the first section, he or she cannot return to it. With the exam only a week away, aspirants may be feeling apprehensive about their CAT preparation with the help of best online teachers for CAT preparation. Here's a quick rundown of things to remember before the final countdown begins.
FOCUS
The CAT exam's overall difficulty level is increased by the aggressive time limit. The questions are simple enough that even a 10th grader can answer them. It is the time management required ...
... to answer as many questions correctly as possible in the allotted time (speed and accuracy) that makes it so difficult.
Candidates should begin with the Quant and DI sections. So, even if LR or/and Verbal Ability are your strong areas, you can't start your test by solving these. You must therefore improve your Quant and DI knowledge because:
• You have to meet the sectional cut off.
• You have to get a decent overall score
• You have to give a positive start to your test.
Sectional time limits are now a major deterrent for some CAT aspirants. So make sure to create a proper plan in which you place equal emphasis on both sections.
ANALYSE
With only one week left for CAT, you ought to analyse 2 major things:
• Areas of perfection and weakness.
• Speed and accuracy.
Which are your areas of ease?
• In which section are you more likely to score better?
• What type of questions you are normally able to solve?
What are your weak areas?
• Which questions are most unlikely to be solved by you?
• Which sections are more likely to take too much of your time and effort?
Mock tests will assist you in making an in-depth analysis of both of the above-mentioned parameters, which will aid you in CAT preparation. The more you practice, the more you discover your strong points and areas for improvement. The final week is not the time to learn completely new skills. You should therefore focus on sections where you excel so that you can answer the most questions in those sections.
PLAN
CAT is all about time management. You must plan your time so that you do not spend too much time answering questions.
This could be a significant impediment to clearing the sectional cut-off. Knowing your strong points allows you to devote time to each section wisely and appropriately. It is generally recommended that you do not spend more than 2.5 minutes on any question. However, it varies depending on a person's skills and abilities. Not everyone can answer every question in 2.5 minutes. Here are some key points to remember:
Take online mock tests
This will help you simulate the computer-based format of the test and keep track of an on-screen timer. However, mock tests are usually more difficult than the actual exam, so don't be discouraged if your performance falls short of your expectations. Simply strive to outperform yourself each time.
Perform a quick scan before you attempt the test (not more than 2-5 mins)
Clicking on a question in the verbal section to find the number of Reading Comprehension passages is one example.
Be careful about clearing the sectional cut-offs
If you are weak in Logical Reasoning, you can prepare and perform well in Verbal Ability with the help of personal tutors for MBA exam to pass the combined LR and Verbal section.
Concepts Remain the Same
Remember to solve and examine previous year's question papers. There are unlikely to be any repeated questions, but you may be able to get a good idea of what the questions look like and what is being tested.
Speed is vital
You should improve your reading, analysis, and problem-solving speed. The faster you read and analyze a question, the faster you can answer it. Also, avoid devoting too much time to a single question. If you find yourself stuck, skip to the next question. The benefit of sectional time limits is that they have already done some time management for you.
Find the Sitters
Both sections will include some simple questions known as 'Sitters.' While scanning the paper, try to find such questions.
Watch out for Speed Bumps
While you will have sitters to assist you, there are often many speed bump questions that will take all of your time to resolve.
Don t ignore the OMR sheet
Make sure to mark the bubbles in the OMR sheet on a regular basis. Filling out the OMR sheet at the end could pose a risk and cause you to enter incorrect answers. There have been cases of students who completed the entire paper but did not pass the CAT because they did not complete the OMR sheet until the end!
Quick Tip: The Elimination Rule
The Elimination Rule was a hot topic during the CAT preparation:
Sometimes the options in a question are so obvious that you don't even need to solve it. You can easily eliminate any option using logic and common sense. This could potentially prevent any time wastage.
Keeping the aforementioned points in mind will be extremely beneficial. Remember that you can't get back the time you've squandered up to this point. You only need to think about how to make the most of the time you have.
Be patient and continue to work toward your goal. Best wishes.
