Australia has a long history and a rich culture that predates 1788. Australia's indigenous Aboriginal people have been residing on this continent for thousands of years, making them the oldest continuously existing culture on Earth. Additionally, they have been creating art, first on rocks in what is now regarded as some of the earliest examples of art, and then more recently on canvas through photography and sculpting. And in recent ages, these amazing cultures are being seen through contemporary Indigenous Australian artwork. All of these sculptures are unique in style and tell significant stories behind them. Well, in this article, you will get to know a few favourite modern artists who are very popular and well-known for their artwork.

Daniel Boyd
Daniel Boyd is a renowned Indigenous artist from Australia who approaches his work from the perspective of a revisionist past. Boyd appropriates portraits of colonial figures to reclaim the story of Australia's founding while reinterpreting the mainstream discourse. Boyd's ...

Betty Muffler
He is a multi-medium artist as well as a traditional doctor with amazing art skills. He works with Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands which is situated in northwestern South Australia. Muffler's artwork has been displayed in galleries throughout Australia and internationally. In addition, Muffler received the Emerging Artist Award at the 2017 Telstra National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Awards.

Gloria Petyarre
This Anmatyerre woman has been called one of Australia's most "collectable" Indigenous artists. She is one of a big number of gifted artists from the Utopia Aboriginal homeland near Alice Springs. After her painting "Leaves" won the prestigious Wynne Prize in 1999 at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, she began to become known for her large abstract paintings of bush medicine leaves that are composed of frenetic curves that swirl around the canvas.

Richard Bell
Richard Bell is a member of the Jiman, Kooma community and an Indigenius Australian artist popular for his artworks. He basically worked with painting, videos, installation as well as text so that they can tackle the debates and problems fencing by the Australian people. This political activist and hard-edged artist contributed to the founding of proppaNOW, a Brisbane-based Indigenous artists collective, in 2003.
