How Neurosurgeons Are Responsible For The Treatment Of Brain Tumors
Neurosurgeons are specialized doctors that treat nervous system disorders. They are responsible for preventing diseases and, thereby, treating them. The duties of neurosurgeons are challenging as they have to deal with brain and spinal disorders. In addition, they regularly conduct complex and lengthy surgeries. Also, dealing with complications in the treatments is another test.
Additionally, as they are involved in curing life-threatening diseases, things often don't go well. So, they have to be empathic with patients and their families. Therefore, only consult a neurosurgeon if you are facing nervous or peripheral nervous system issues.
Disorders that a neurosurgeon treats:
Alzheimer's disease: The brain cells of the person affected by Alzheimer's disease start to shrink and then die. It impacts the thinking capabilities and memory span of the patient.
Cerebral Palsy: Cerebral Palsy doesn't allow the person to move and function much independently. It mainly occurs because of weak brain muscles.
Epilepsy: ...
... A person with epilepsy experiences periodical seizures and unusual behavior. It leads to a lack of consciousness, sense, and cognition.
Neurofibromatosis: Neurofibromatosis is the tumors that form in the nerve tissue. The tumors can spread to the spinal cord and brain. Its cure is not discovered yet, but the treatments help people have an average life expectancy.
Motor neuron disease (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis): Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a condition where the motor organs don't work adequately. Therefore, the patient can't perform voluntary actions such as walking or sitting with perfection.
Parkinson's disease: The disorder ultimately damages the cells and results in tremors. It reduces the dopamine levels in the body, and thus, the patient suffers anxiety.
Carpal tunnel syndrome: The dysfunction of the passageway that connects bones and ligaments of the wrist and palm is called Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. It results in numbness and stiffness in the palm.
Bell's Palsy: In this condition, the muscles on one side of the face become weak. Therefore, one side of the face droops and the eyes get affected too. The patient with Bell's Palsy finds it challenging to close the impacted eye.
Brain tumors: The unusual cell growth in the brain cause brain tumors. It can be benign or malignant. Let's learn more about brain tumor.
Type of Brain Tumors:
There are two types of brain tumors, i.e. noncancerous and cancerous.
Benign tumors: The benign (noncancerous) brain tumors develop gradually in the brain. Also, they do not expand their roots in other body parts. They are easily removed surgically from the brain, and the probability of their returning is low.
However, the benign cancerous cells must be eliminated adequately. Therefore, patients should regularly check with the help of scans and radiotherapy.
Symptoms of noncancerous brain tumors:
Recurring headaches
Seizures
Poor eyesight
Troubles in speech
Dizziness
Weakness
Changes in the behavior
Malignant brain tumors: Unlike benign, malignant brain tumors proliferates in your body from the brain. These are cancerous cells that affect your body adversely. Cancerous brain tumors are categorized as grades 3 and 4 based on their threat level.
Mostly, secondary brain tumors are the ones that have started in a different part of your body. The brain is the initial point of abnormal cell generation in primary brain tumours.
Symptoms of malignant brain tumors:
Nausea and Vomiting
Drowsiness
Recurring headaches
Seizures
Paralysis
Trouble in vision and speech
Brain tumor treatment
Patients with recurring symptoms are advised for brain tumor diagnosis. The diagnosis is accomplished through Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
The treatment is initiated if the test results diagnose the presence of a brain tumor. If the patient has a primary brain tumor, surgery is performed on them immediately. It is necessary as the tumor can expand into other body parts.
Neurosurgeons remove patients tumors through surgery from the brain or spinal cord. Additionally, chemotherapy and radiotherapy are provided to eradicate the remaining tumors. The therapies are crucial as they prevent the further growth of cancerous cells.
However, the tumors form again in the secondary brain tumors. Although its therapy is impossible, the patient's life can be prolonged. The efficient treatments also reduce the symptoms.
One should only seek the best neurosurgeon for effective treatment. Patients deserve treatment in good hands.
Why do brain tumors occur?
The genetic mutations in the brain cells.
Family's history of brain cancer.
The unhealthy lifestyle choices.
Being exposed to a harmful environment.
Cancer first starts in the breast, kidney, colon, and lungs.
The patient's exposure to radiation in their life.
Conclusion
In India, more than 1,00,000 people have cancer every year. Unfortunately, many people lose their precious lives because of this life-threatening disease. Although the cure for the earlier stages of cancer is available, people in 3 and 4 grades lose their lives. However, we can save ourselves from cancer by regularly doing body checkups and choosing a healthy lifestyle.
