The CAT (Common Admission Test) is a very popular exam for students who want to get into one of the country's prestigious management institutes. It grades candidates based on their Quantitative Ability, Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC), and Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) abilities.

Your daily habits and choices determine your level of success. For guidance you can take the help of your best home tutors for CAT preparation.

This holds true for the CAT exam as well. With over two lakh candidates competing for seats in 20 IIMs and other prestigious institutes such as FMS, DMS, and others, the competition is fierce. However, success in such a scenario is only difficult, not impossible! And your daily habits, which set the tone for your overall preparation, play a significant role in eventually leading to this success. As a result, this article tries to answer the all-important question, "What are the Best Daily Habits for CAT Preparation?"

Daily Habits to Follow
Some of the daily habits you should develop while studying for the CAT are listed below. Remember that you ...
... can instil these habits based on your preferences and needs in order to achieve the best CAT exam results.

1. Practice 2 Reading Comprehension’s (RC’s) Daily
The Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC) section of the CAT exam accounts for 34 of the total 100 questions. Furthermore, developing strong verbal and reading skills is essential not only for passing the CAT exam but also for succeeding in your MBA programme. So make it a point to solve at least two RCs every day, until solving RCs becomes a muscle memory by the time you sit for the CAT. While solving the RCs, keep in mind that they are not a jumble of random words, but rather a flow of thought depicted in the paper. All you have to do now is try to catch that flow. The trick is comprehension rather than speed, so comprehension is more important. Many aspirants begin reading the passage, but their minds wander due to lack of concentration and unfamiliar domain, and they are unable to retain what they have read and must re-read it. So, by solving two RCs daily, you'll be able to master reading without losing concentration and keeping up with the writer's thought process.

2. Practice 2 Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) Problems Daily
Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning is one of three sections in the CAT, and it contains approximately 32 questions. Obviously, it is critical to thoroughly prepare for it. To build a solid foundation in these topics, you should practise two DI and LR problems per day. Many Data Interpretation problems necessitate a large number of calculations because they involve data, diagrams, puzzles, and so on. In this case, you should read the question carefully and pay attention to the units used. Also, whenever possible, use approximations. Logical Reasoning, on the other hand, usually deals with puzzles that can only be solved with common sense and a lot of practise. So, practise at least two Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning problems per day to be ready for a wide range of questions.

3. Practise Quantitative Ability for 2 Hours Daily
Quantitative Ability is one of the most important sections in the CAT because it helps in the Data Interpretation section if done correctly. Furthermore, 34 questions out of a total of 100 are asked from this section alone, so don't skip it. In the CAT, Quantitative Ability includes five major topics: Number System, Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry & Mensuration, and Modern Maths. So you should devote at least 2 hours per day to practising Quantitative Ability so that you can eventually solve most of the questions in 2-2.5 minutes. If this does not happen, you should look for a trick that you may be unaware of. Make sure you're always looking for faster ways to answer Quantitative Ability questions and that your approach is evolving.

4. Read the Newspaper Daily
While studying for the CAT, it is critical to read the newspaper on a daily basis. Reading the newspaper improves your long-term focus, which is critical in the CAT for Reading Comprehension. Furthermore, the vocabulary and grammar used in the newspaper are quite good, which will come in handy during the verbal section of the CAT exam. Not only that, but Reading the newspaper can also help you prepare for Group Discussions after passing the CAT exam, as well as the General Knowledge sections of some other MBA exams. Make it a habit to read the newspaper every day, particularly the editorial section. Then make a list with the help of personal tutors for MBA exam of all the important facts so you can recall them later if necessary. The Hindu, Hindustan Times, Indian Express, and other newspapers are excellent resources for this.

5. Revise all the Important Formulae Daily
Learn all of the relevant formulas and create a cheat sheet for them while doing your initial CAT preparation. Eventually, this will mean that all of the CAT formulas you learn will be available in one location. Then, on a daily basis, go over all of the important formulas on this cheat sheet until you know them by heart. Then, whenever you solve CAT practise questions, don't consult this cheat sheet. You should have memorised it after all of your revising, and if you still can't remember it, go over all of the formulas again and do the questions again the next day. In general, it is best to keep the formula cheat sheet visible wherever you study and to carry it with you whenever you travel.
