Outlander , the series based on the novels by Diana Gabaldon , is Starz's undisputed smash hit, so it's no wonder the network is extending that success by preparing a new prequel series. Unfortunately for his fans, it looks like he doesn't. Although it makes perfect sense, considering that it is a prequel. This has been confirmed by Heughan in a recent interview with Esquire when he had a short break in the filming of season 7 of Outlander:

"All I can say is that I'm not into it. As Jamie I am not. I think it's a prequel that focuses on Jamie's parents when they were younger, so I guess you might see a younger version of him at some point. But I think I may be too old to play a young Jamie now. ... is that he affirms that the Outlander prequel is starring Jamie's parents , taking into account that everything pointed to John Gray ( David Berry ) going to be the protagonist for the books that Diana Gabaldon gave him. has dedicated to this character.

THE FILMING OF SEASON 7 OF 'OUTLANDER'
Sam Heughan has also had the opportunity to speak about the filming of Outlander season 7 , admitting that time "is flying by". In addition, he has stated that they will not finish shooting until 2023 :

"It seems like we started yesterday, but we are already in the sixth episode. This season is going to take a while, it's an excellent 18-episode mega season, so we probably won't be done until March or February of next year.
