There are many places where eco-friendly practices are used, from airports to schools, office buildings, apartment buildings and hospitals. According to reports, India has the world's second-highest number of green buildings.

Green Building: What Is It?

Green buildings are made with the natural environment in mind and work in ways that don't harm it. It must be built with sustainable materials and focus on using natural resources like water and air for proper cooling and ventilation and lowering energy costs. Every effort must be made to eliminate as much non-biodegradable waste as possible.

Green Building Certifications in India

Different certifications ...
... can be used to verify and promote green buildings. These certifications look at a building from many angles and then rate and certify it based on what they find. These certificates and ratings give a project more credibility and back up its claims of being good for the environment. This is a helpful tool for people who want to buy or invest in buildings that are good for the environment and want to know more about them. Green buildings can also help save money on energy costs because they are made with technologies and designs that use less energy.

LEED

LEED is one of the most well-known green building certifications in use today. It is managed by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), established in 1993. It evaluates each project and assigns a grade depending on how efficiently it conserves water, energy and environmentally friendly materials.

IGBC Rating Systems

The Indian Green Building Council, set up in 2001 in Hyderabad, is in charge of the IGBC rating system. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) backs it. Buildings are given certified silver, gold and platinum ratings, which determine their value.

GRIHA Ratings

The Energy and Resources Institute in India came up with the GRIHA rating system (TERI). It is backed by the Government of India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. GRIHA uses a rating system based on stars, with five stars being the best.

Aside from the ones listed above, some other groups are also working to promote buildings that are good for the environment. The World Green Building Council and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency are among these. These ratings and certifications can help a buyer make a better decision. Also, it's essential to know how the ratings on the certificate work to get a clear picture of how eco-friendly a project is.
