... Chi is a Chinese martial art that is based on Taoist principles. Tai Chi is the physical representation of 2 major works of Chinese Taoist literature, the I Ching and the Tao Te Ching. Tai Chi is an ancient style of martial art that is remarkably ambiguous in its actual origin. Some argue that Tai Chi is over a thousand years old and based upon the martial teachings of the Shaolin Temple.

Tai chi created in China in about the 12th century A.D. It started as a martial art, or a practice for battling or self-defense, usually without weapons. Over time, people began to use tai chi for health purposes as well. A number of different styles of tai chi, and variations of each style, created. The term "tai chi" has been translated in various ways, such as "internal martial art," "supreme ultimate boxing," "boundless fist" and "balance of the opposing forces of nature." Tai Chi is a gentle art. It is low-impact and graceful. It is a beautiful art to practice and to behold. The original fighting type is one of the deadliest forms of combat ever invented. Alas, nearly all modern teachers have lost a lot of the original martial techniques.

Tai Chi has four main styles and multiple sub-styles. Yang is the almost all prevalent and well-known. Chen, Wu, and Sun are the other 3 the majority of common styles. The differences in style are evolutionary and based on different interpretations of Tai Chi theory.

Tai Chi is an internal martial art. It teaches the ability to gather, focus and utilize chi / qi energy. Chi is the holistic force that lives in all things.
