For the modern woman, and also several men, removing body hair is a constant source of concern, mainly because body hair is considered unhygienic and it tends to take away from the prim and proper look.
Today, there are plenty of options when it comes to removing unwanted body hair and some of the most popular ones include:
Shaving: This is perhaps the most popular and also one of the easiest methods of hair removal because all you need is a razor and some shaving cream or foam. One of the reasons for the popularity of shaving is that you can do it without any assistance and it can be done quite easily when you are in the shower. This is also one of the fastest ways of hair removal because once you have spread the shaving gel or foam, within a few continuous strokes, you can cover your entire leg or hand. Shaving is a good option when you want to remove hair from your arms, legs, and even underarms, but there is always the chance of nicks and cuts and also razor bumps.
•Waxing: If you are looking for a hair removal method that is a little more long-lasting than shaving, then waxing is a good option for ...
... you. Warm melted wax is spread on the hair and using a thin strip of cloth, the hair is quickly pulled away in the same direction as the growth. Because the wax is warm, the hair follicles become slightly dilated and that allows for easier removal of the hair. This is a great way to remove hair from larger areas, such as arms and legs; however, waxing can cause rashes and irritation for many people. Another problem with waxing is that it can lead to ingrown hair, especially in the bikini area. In addition, when the same applicator stick is dipped repeatedly into the warm wax, it can lead to infections.
• Hair removal creams: This is perhaps one of the most pain-free methods of hair removal because all you need to do is apply the cream and then remove it, using a scraper-like tool or a wet cloth. The chemicals in these creams can break the disulfide bonds which are present in the keratin of the hair; this in turn makes the hair weak and you can wipe it away quite easily. Although these creams can be used on any part of the body, they are perfect for the most sensitive parts. But because these creams are formulated using chemicals, there is always the chance of reactions and allergies.
• Threading: While threading is the perfect choice for your eyebrows and upper lips, it can be quite painful and time-consuming when you are considering it for other parts of the body. Because the thread is discarded immediately after being used, the process can be considered quite safe and hygienic. There can be a slight pinching feeling and a little redness post threading, there are no permanent problems.
• Sugaring: This might not be the most popular hair removal method, but the fact of the matter is that a simple solution made using sugar, lemon juice and water can help remove unwanted hair with ease. The paste can be spread all over the skin and once dry, it is pulled in the direction against the hair growth. Because of the all-natural ingredients, there is little to no chance of any allergies or reactions and the pain is considerably less than that of waxing. Sugaring is known to provide results similar to waxing, provided it is done correctly.
And then there are the two methods which might be slightly more expensive but are known to give better and longer lasting results. These are laser hair removal and electrolysis:
Laser hair removal – Even though this is one of the most expensive methods of hair removal, the fact is that this is also one of the most effective ones. As a matter of fact, the hair growth after laser hair removal is so minimal and minute that this method is often tagged as permanent. Although laser hair removal can work on any part of the body, it would require several sessions to see the kind of drastic results you might want. This is why a laser hair removal is a good option for the face or smaller areas such as the underarms or bikini line. With monthly treatments, the results should start becoming more and more evident, but you will require periodic sessions to maintain the results.
Electrolysis – Electrolysis is also considered a permanent method of hair removal – in this procedure, a needle delivers a short blast of electricity directly to the hair follicle, destroying it completely. The biggest benefit of electrolysis is that it works on any type of skin and hair, but it needs to be done by a professional. With electrolysis, there are fewer follow-ups required and it is most definitely less expensive than laser hair removal. Perhaps one of the biggest disadvantages of electrolysis is that it removes one hair at a time, which is why it takes a lot of time and because there is a needle involved, there is a little discomfort involved as well.
If you are looking at the difference between electrolysis and laser hair removal, here are the main ones:
• Electrolysis takes a lot more time, which is why it is the best option for smaller parts of the body.
• Electrolysis needs a lot more sessions because in one session very little area can be covered.
• Because electrolysis involves a needle, there is a little discomfort involved.
• Electrolysis has much lesser risks involved, than laser.
