Dental Crowns
What is a dental crown?
A dental crown is a protective and restorative cover for an existing tooth.

Dental crowns can improve decayed and broken teeth, by improving the appearance and providing strength and durability.

Benefits of getting a dental crown
Dental crowns are great at protecting teeth which have been damaged and are weak. The crown can help protect the tooth from further wear and tear, as well as preventing the root canal from becoming infected.

Not only do crowns help protect a tooth, they also improve the appearance of the tooth by covering up decay, wear and tear, and discolouration.

How to care for a dental crown?
Dental crowns need cleaning daily just like your natural teeth, so make sure to brush and floss daily. The actual dental crowns will not decay, however the edge of the natural tooth it sits on will decay and wear away.

How long do dental crowns last?
Dental crowns acan last for many years if they are cared for and cleaned daily. If you take care of your dental crowns properly and with the right care, they can last for between ...
... five to 15 years.

The dental crown procedure
The treatment begins with an initial consultation, where the team at Zen Dental Studio will decide whether a dental crown is suitable for you or not.

If a dental crown is suitable for you, the treatment requires part of the outer layer of the tooth is removed to make room for the crown.

You will have had an impression of your teeth taken before having your tooth trimmed down, and one after having your tooth trimmed down.

This impression will be sent off to a dental laboratory, where your custom crown will be fabricated. In the meantime, you will have a temporary crown fitted over your tooth for protection.

Once Zen Dental Studio receives your crown (could be weeks later), you will return for your last visit, where the permanent dental crown will be cemented down onto the tooth.

Why you may need a dental crown?
There are multiple reasons why a patient may need a dental crown, including the following:

Protection for a weak and decayed tooth
Restore a broken or cracked tooth
To cover up a misshapen tooth
To cover up discolouring
To hold a dental bridge
Top of a dental implant
Other cosmetic modifications
