Dental Implants
What are dental implants
Dental implants are the most efficient long-term solution to replacing your missing teeth.
Dental implants are small posts/fixtures made of titanium and are inserted into bone. A crown, bridge, a partial denture or a full denture can be attached to the dental implant to restore the function and aesthetics of your smile.
Who is suitable for dental implants?
A dental implant restoration is a term that broadly includes a dental implant as well as the prosthetic structures including a special crown(cap) and other components that connect and fit into the implant.
Our charges including the dental implant, crown as well as other components start from $4500 at our dental studio in Brisbane. This cost is spread over time and is not a one-time payment. This includes the cost of using a local Brisbane expert dental laboratory as well as one of the best dental implant systems with a proven track record to ensure that our patients get the best treatment long term.
Additional ...
... procedures if required, will have an additional cost. This may include a special 3D scan of your jaws by a dental radiologist as well as other adjunctive procedures in addition to the dental implant and crown.
How long does dental implant treatment take?
Due to the fusing process of the bone and the titanium screw, the dental implant process will take between six to eight months for most patients.
The dental implant procedure itself will take about 1-2 hours.
How to clean dental implants?
You treat a dental implant just like a natural tooth and clean it the same way.
However, for removable implants, they should be removed daily for cleaning.
We give you all the options:
At Zen Dental Studio Brisbane we believe in providing accurate and detailed information of the procedure and the options available along with the risks, benefits and the financial costs. There are alternatives to dental implants and all options are discussed with you at your initial consultation. We also have payment plan options which are interest free.
How much does my health insurance cover?
Majority of the times we can check your expected out of pocket costs on the day of your consultation with our HICAPS instant claims machine so that you have peace of mind.
Why do dental implant costs vary so much in Australia?
We often get asked this question and are provided with quotes from other dental clinics. Dental implant costs depend upon the brand of implant being used, as well as the other components used.
There are over 1000 different dental implant systems available worldwide ranging from less costly to expensive, but only few implants and implant companies have a long proven safe track record.
Additionally, using an expert lab, original components and a dentist’s training and education all play a factor in deciding the cost and thus there is variation among different clinics. At Zen Dental Studio Brisbane, we believe in complete transparency of costs involved as well as giving the best to our patients.

Initial consultation
During the initial consultation, the team at Zen Dental Studio in Brisbane will decide whether you are suitable for a dental implant, or if another restorative treatment would suit you more.
The team will want to know your medical history, medical conditions and any medications you take. To examine your dental health, you will undergo a comprehensive dental exam, x-rays and 3D imaging.
This information will allow our team to know whether you are eligible for dental implants or not.
If the dental implant procedure is suitable for you, treatment will be underway.
Placement of the dental implant
You will need either local anaesthetic or sedation for the procedure, it’s your choice which you prefer.
During the procedure, you will have your gum cut back in the site of the missing tooth to expose the jawbone. A drill will then be used to make a hole in your jawbone, where the dental implant will be inserted.
Once the dental implant has been placed, you will have to wait several months to allow a process known as ‘osseointegration’ to occur. This process involves the bone growing to fuse the dental implant in place. This is required to provide strength and durability before the permanent crown or artificial tooth is placed.
In the meantime, a temporary denture may be inserted over the implant for protection.
The abutment
The abutment is the connecting piece between the dental implant and the dental crown or artificial tooth. The abutment may also be inserted in the initial dental implant surgery in some patients.
You may require minor surgery with local anaesthetic for placement of the abutment, as the gum tissue will have to be cut away to expose the dental implant.
The healing time for this procedure is two weeks.
Placement of a crown or artificial tooth
After two weeks following the abutment surgery, you will be ready to have your permanent tooth replacement.
You can either choose a dental crown or an artificial tooth. The artificial tooth can either be removable, fixed or a combination of the two.
The fixed version is cemented down, whereas the removable version is connected to a metal frame attached to the abutment.
Are dental implants safe?
Dental implants are safe and very effective at replacing lost teeth. However, the patient must be suitable, meaning they have adequate jawbone and good dental health to support a dental implant.
Can the dental implant fusing process fail?
For some patients, yes, the jawbone can fail to fuse. If this occurs, you will have to get the implant removed and wait three months before having the implant inserted again.
In most cases, a dental implant fails to fuse when the patient smokes, suffers facial trauma, has an infection, or is medically unfit. Good planning and a good history of your health helps minimise this risk.
