Recovering Corrupt Ost File Due To Improper Synchronization In Outlook 2002
Convert Ost to Pst - In MS Outlook, all the information is stored in two types of files, OST (Offline Storage Table) and PST (Personal Storage Table) file. Of these two files, the OST file is used when you work in the offline mode. Using the OST file is particularly helpful when you are working in an area where there are connectivity issues. Working in offline mode is very much like working in any other offline application like MS Word. You keep on doing your work like sending emails. But to reflect them on the server, you need to synchronize the OST file with the Exchange Server. However, sometimes during synchronization the OST file gets corrupt making Outlook behave in strange ways. In such cases, you should repair the OST file using appropriate measures. However, if you are not able to fix the problem then you should use a third-party OST-PST conversion software to convert OST to PST file.
Consider a scenario wherein you use Outlook 2002 with the OST file in the background. You open Outlook and start to synchronize it with the Exchange Server. However, after the ...
... synchronization you find that some of the Outlook items are not getting opened whenever you work in the offline mode.
Cause:
The most possible cause of such behavior is that the OST file is corrupt and needs to be repaired. It may have gone corrupt due to various reasons such as virus infections, human errors, synchronization issues, etc.
Resolution:
In such cases, you should scan and repair the OST file using the in-built OST Integrity (Scanost.exe) Tool. To do this, you need to perform the following steps:
1)Click Start | Run.
2)Enter C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\LocaleID\scanost.exe in the Open box.
3)Press Enter.
4)Click either the Scan all folders option or Choose folder to scan accordingly. Please note that the first option would take several minutes to get completed.
5)Select the Repair errors check box.
6)Click Begin Scan. The OST file will be scanned by the OST Integrity Tool.
7)Restart Outlook. Now you would be able to view those items properly.
However, if the problem is persisting and you are still facing the same issues then you should use a third-party OST PST conversion software to convert OST to PST file. Such OST to PST conversion tools are able to do the conversion without overwriting the original OST file.
Stellar Phoenix Exchange Mailbox Desktop (www.convert-ost-pst.com ) is an OST to PST conversion software that is able to successfully convert OST to its equivalent PST file. It is able to restore various OST objects such as emails, contacts, tasks, journals, calendar items, etc during the OST-PST conversion. It is compatible with Windows 7, Vista, Server 2003, XP, and 2000.
