Heinz Field
The stadium is on the northside of Pittsburgh, along the Ohio River. It opened in 2001 and is named after the H.J. Heinz Company, who purchased the naming rights in 2001. It incorporated 12,000 tons of steel into the design to keep with the history of the city. It also has a natural grass surface that was criticized at first but, the Steelers players and ownership fought to keep it.
The Coca-Cola Great Hall is on the east side of the stadium. It contains a collection of Steelers and Pittsburgh Panther memorabilia. For example, there are actual lockers of former famous players (Joe Greene, Bill Dudley, Jerome Bettis, and more) and a timeline of the Steelers major events throughout their winning history. Also, the word Steelers is painted in black over a gold background on the floor so that it will resemble their old field from Three Rivers Stadium. The University of Pittsburgh is represented ...
