It becomes like a difficult job about what to eat, what not to eat and also kind of stressful. Through this article we are going to break some myths that we have heard a lot on the regular basis. This will throw some light on things that you should do and not do while going through the journey of losing weight.
Some Weight Loss Myths
1. Skipping meals will help in losing weight
It is good to do fasting and is one of the excellent options to lose weight along with that its good for the overall health but in order to lose weight it’s not important to fast for a long time. It is good to have small meals throughout the day in order to avoid being hungry. Especially in cases where we found ourselves being hungrier and eating more while skipping ...
... meals. It becomes much easier when you get to learn about your calories throughout the day. You can also divide the number of meals throughout the day like you have total calories of 3000 per day so you divide per meal into 400 calories.
2. You Should Stay Away From Fats
It is good to stay away from some of the dietary food if your goal is to have a skinny or toned body. But not all the fats are equally bad but you must avoid taking any kind of fast or greasy food. As they contain a lot of saturated fats in it but instead you can include avocados, clarified butter, peanut butter etc. Products that have healthy fats are really great for the brain and along with that it's great for improving skin health. Things like fatty fish, seeds and nuts can help in making you a little full as well as satisfying.
3. Cutting out Glutens from the Diet can Guarantee weight loss
There are reasons that indicate why you should cut down gluten from your diet. Other than diet there are also other reasons that a person can avoid taking gluten in their diet and that is celiac disease. If you are diagnosed with hypothyroidism then it’s worth stopping from taking gluten within the diet. If you are giving up on eating wheat or any other kind of gluten rich product just to lose weight then its a bad idea. As per said by Isabel Smith who is a Registered dietitian “it's not your gluten free diet which will help in losing your weight instead start cutting out the sugary or processed food from the diet. So in short just add more fiber rich foods in your diet along with gluten then you are doing perfect.
4. If You Do Intense Workout then You will Lose Weight More Easily
There is no other feeling like leaving the gym being sweaty and panting, along with that being sore the next day. You feel fresh which is one of the positive signs but if you are left with having a red face then that is not a good sign. Working on a low intensity is important just like your loving HIIT class, as it helps in lowering down the cortisol as well as stress hormones. Many studies have shown that Obesity is directly linked to the disturbed levels of cortisol. So it is also suggested to do Yoga once a week in order to see better results.
5. It is Better to Take Zero Calorie Sodas
Soda is totally antithesis for the people who are trying to lose weight. As it is commonly loaded with a lot of calories as well as sugar packed in it along with ingredients that are not familiar. This then leads to slow metabolism. For example, if you are craving a burger but you don't want to then you have got an alternative like diet soda. They exist for this reason and then claiming it being a healthier version is totally wrong. They are just like regular soda which has just less sugar and calories in it. As done by the studies they are linked to also playing a role in causing obesity, high blood pressure and many more diseases. So instead of taking Sodas add some healthy natural drinks to your diet.
6. It’s okay to Have Cheat Day
Being on a diet does not mean that you need to eat those boring salads all the time. It is good to reward yourself with some foods that you love and the craving that you have been holding for so long. But instead of dedicating one day to a cheat meal, try having just small cheat meals every day. In this way you will definitely see a lot of progress in your weight loss journey and it's just a myth that dedicating that one day is the best day.
7. Always Stay Away From Fats
It is especially a main goal of a skinny person to have a toned body and it is suggested to stay away from all kinds of dietary fats. But there are different fats and each of them are different from each other. Yes, you should avoid taking fast or any kind of greasy food which is full of saturated fat which is bad. So, it is important to add avocados, nut butters, and flaxseed into the diet which is full of healthy fats making it brilliant for the brain as well as skin. Along with that, healthy fats in it are packed with anti-inflammatory properties and also boost you to lose weight fast. Enjoy toasting your breads along with good fats like avocado and lose weight without staying hungry.
8. Sweating More will make me lose weight fast
We must have all seen guys around us wearing some kind of sweat suits or trash bags which makes them look silly and in no shape at all. We think to ourselves that are they okay or they are on something, so let's take a deeper look. Our body has almost 60 percent of water. For example, if you weigh 180 pound then 108 pound will be water. Your body weight can fluctuate on a daily basis from 2 to 5 percent. Meaning that your weight can vary between 3 to 9 pounds out of our 180 pound. And if you are sweating excessively then there is a great chance to lose 108 pounds of water making you dehydrated. It's easy to bring down the scale to 160 in a short period of time, which is only the water loss and not the fat loss. This myth can be very harmful to one's health and can also give rise to other health issues.
9. Running will be seeing Results like a Magic
We have all heard from someone that “I ran on a daily basis and I lost a lot of weight”. If it was a case then people running in marathons would have lost all their weight. It was in fact seen that not even one person lost any amount of weight. Because most of the people consume more calories for the race as compared to their running. Running does not mean that you have free will to eat anything and overeat. Yes, running is one of the great forms of cardio for the body and gives strength to your mind, body and legs. Running can be considered as a great exercise but not great for losing weight.
10. You are going to Gain all the weight Again
There is a old saying by many people that says if you lose fast faster than you will gain weight faster. It is not always the case and yes it is surely easy to lose some of the pounds faster due to the weight of water in our body as 60% of our body is water. It is totally true that losing weight is different for each person. Some people lose weight faster than you and even with simple changes; they are able to maintain it easily. Don't think that you are going to gain easily if you have lost weight faster in just weeks, be happy and motivated.
11. If there is No Pain then there is No Gain
This myth of weight loss in itself causes fear in the people and they avoid going to the gym. Although there is some discomfort while performing the resistance or cardio training. This feeling of discomfort can be for a short period of time. Think of it in the other way you are trying to break your past habits and rebuilding the body. You then rest, recover and become much more stronger. This helps in strengthening the heart and increasing flexibility as well. You don't have to push yourself too much and losing weight isn't supposed to be painful or dangerous. Then, it is obvious that you will quit very easily because it's hurting too much.
12. People saying I have Slow Metabolism
Metabolism is basically all the food that we have consumed converting it into the form of energy. Our metabolism is basically responsible for converting the food into the form of energy so that we can live. This is a complex process where the calories are being converted into energy and then our body uses it for function. Even if you are resting the body needs some form of energy to perform the regular function like regulating hormone levels, circulating the blood, and other functions as well. So, it's just a myth that you have a slow metabolism but what you can do is increase the metabolism by moving your body more. This will then lead to using more energy and this energy then uses fat in short making the fat loss easier.
13. Lifting too much weight will make me Bulky
Well we have seen that most women have a fear of lifting a weight because they think it will make them look more manly or bigger. While lifting weight helps them in improving their strength and they have less chances of increasing the size of muscles in women as compared to men. Yes, it's true that both men as well as women produce testosterone (anabolic hormone). This hormone helps in repairing tissue and women produce testosterone ten times less than women. This is one of the greatest reasons that men gain muscle mass faster in just a short time. If you have more body fat and you are adding more mass without losing the body fat then you will look bigger. So, it is not important to kill yourself at gym but just remember to stimulate the bones as well as muscles. You just need to work out two to three times a day and it is more than enough.
14. Women do not have to Lift Weights
This is one of the biggest as well as one of the worst myths we all might have heard a lot and not lifting causes a problem. Females have the tendency to produce estrogen and it is normally responsible for making the bones weak. It also lowers down the density of bones and it is important to note that lifting weight will increase the resistance making the bones more stronger. If you don't want to do it then you can use balls or your own body weight to get the same results. While weight can help you to stimulate the bone and muscles, helping them to grow. Women mostly go for crunches and it is great but by avoiding some weight lifting they are making a big mistake. So, all the ladies try adding some weight in your daily exercise and become much more stronger.
15. My Hormones are causing me to gain too much weight
Hormones are a kind of sensitive topic to discuss and mostly women are the prey for this. They use hormones as an excuse for their weight gain or not being able to lose weight. We have seen many products sold online and guranting to balance your hormones. Well before buying that you must know one thing that your hormones are not at fault for making you gain weight. It is your eating habit or increased calorie which makes you fat. Imbalance in hormones can cause changes in mood or disturbed sleep. But menopause could be one of the reasons to lose the weight slow because at that time the metabolic rate becomes slow. Avoid eating too much and start moving more which is enough.
