One of the most widely used quality management system standards on the global scale is ISO 9001. It supports many organizations in establishing a quality management system (QMS) to guarantee high-quality products and services as well as client fulfillment. The standard is used by organizations to show that they can consistently deliver products and services that meet legal and customer standards. It is the greatest widely used standard in the ISO 9000 series and the only one to which organizations can certify.

ISO 9001 standard was first published in 1987 by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), an international agency that collected the national standards bodies of more than 160 countries. In September 2015, the most recent edition of ISO 9001 was made public. 1. Knowledge of the standard: Obvious, but important. An ISO 9001 consultant is important to have detailed knowledge of the standard and what is expected and be on top of any changes that come around. Also, In-depth knowledge of ISO 9001 requirements, certification process, documentation, etc.

2. A keen eye for detail: A consultant is likely to pick up on things other employees may miss, which is why he/she is being hired. As a consultant, it is important to keep an eye for detail to ensure that it brings extra value to any project that is hired to contribute to or manage.

3. A good leader: It is likely as an ISO 9001 consultant may have to bridge the gap between top management and the workforce, and “sell” the qualities of a project to both. Good leadership skills can be vital to achieving this.

4. A good communicator: The finest plans can go incorrect with ineffective planning, so confirm that the communication is appropriate, correct, and concise. A lack of communication can lead straight to a lack of awareness and competence in the workforce, so it is important to ensure that the gap is closed.

5. Good organizational skills: An ISO 9001 project can be complex and may not be in line: The consultant may be working on numerous different strands at once.

6. A good problem solver: Above all, a consultant will be perceived as the person who has the solution to the problems in an ISO 9001 project, so the skill to solve problems and give good advice is important. If a consultant does not have the answers, they will be expected to find them. Be measured, level, and organized, and research and prepare as well as possible.
