Photography is a form of art and the photographer creatively convert her imaginary picture from her head into a beautiful work of art by using her camera. It requires talent as photographers normally have a particular artistic ability to convert those intangible images into something tangible that everyone can actually see and appreciate. In fact, taking good pictures is getting easier with compact digital camera since current point-and-shoot cameras offers advanced presets or shooting modes that allow users to capture spectacular images easily. However, that doesn't mean that they should forgo the basics of photography.

Here are some photo composition secrets of taking good quality pictures with your point-and-shoot camera:

Secret #1: Applying the Rule of Third

There are no definite rules for photo composition. However, there are few things that can make your snapshot more appealing than others. First, you can try the Rule of Third - change the display of your LCD screen (where you can see grids on the screen). The intersections of these lines suggest four (or more) options for placing the center of interest ...
... for good photo composition. Take note of this - the option that you choose relies on the subject and how you want that particular subject to be presented. Unlike taking a candid shot - applying the Rule of Third is a more systematic way of making the subject as the focal point rather than being neglected in the picture.

Secret #2: Maintaining balance in your photo shoot

If there are two apples on a small table - one apple at an edge of the table, and the other one at the other edge, how would you take the picture? Taking a snapshot of a picture of a table with an apple or two apples? If you're applying the "balance" principle - you would choose the latter as your answer. This principle is frequently used to make the subjects look more pleasant and attractive in the picture - which brings better photo composition.

Secret #3: Don't overlook the lines

You have to be observant if you want to have good composition in your pictures - in this case, you have to take note of the lines of the subject (or other objects). Those lines can be straight, curvy or heading at different directions - i.e. diagonal lines or horizontal lines; which can cause different impact in your pictures. For example, the diagonal rays of sunlight that can be seen in a building that can make your picture look interesting and appealing to others.
