Etch Primer is a combination product. When acting as a primer, the product is etched on the surface of metal or fiberglass. This allows you to ensure better paint adhesion in fewer steps, streamlining your painting project while protecting the underlying material.
Etch Primers
Picture this: You are about to start a metal or fiberglass painting project and you want to get it first. Since metal and fiberglass are often challenging to paint, you know you need to find the right primer. As you explore your options, you'll come across something you haven't used before: an etching primer. But what is an etching primer and is it the best primer for work?

If you want to get a closer look at what an etching primer is, here's what you need to know.
What Is an Etching Primer?
Etching primer is a special primer designed for metal and fiberglass. Generally, it contains substances like phosphoric acid and zinc. After applying that component in the primer, the surface gets scratched, which gives the fiberglass or metal a more rough surface. It sticks well.

In some cases, unlike traditional primers, an Etching ...
... primer can also be a surface primer for painting. Specific versions offer a lot of protection to the underlying material, preventing damage, rust and oxidation while providing the right surface for painting.

However, some Etching primers are less adept at protecting the underlying material. As such, it can serve as a base coat for a second primer with more protection.

The main advantage of an Etching primer is that you can usually avoid a cumbersome sanding phase during the painting project. The ability to mold makes sanding unnecessary in most cases, although primer features give you a clean, workable surface for primer or paint.
How to Use Etch Primer
The Uses and Application of Spray-On Etch Primer
Difficulty: Easy
Etch Primer is a very versatile primer designed to be applied directly to bare metal and should be used when you want to make an overcoat and sand. Ech primers also protect against rust. Ech primer contains a very mild acid that corrodes the metal, creating an even stronger bond between the surface and the primer, resulting in excellent adhesion. Safety
Anything in an aerosol can harm your health, so be prepared before using a spray-on itch primer. A ventilator mask is the best way to protect your respiratory system and you should only apply primer to ventilated areas. You may also want to use goggles and gloves.

You should always keep the primer away from fire as it is highly flammable and if it gets too hot the can can explode.
Step 1: Preparing Your Surface
To create your surface, you need to clean it. If it is dirty or greasy, your product will not stick. Use a good car cleaner and microfiber cloth to make sure the area you are priming is washed properly.

Next, wrap a 400-grit wet or dry sheet around the sanding block and scrub the surface using plenty of water. This step will greatly help in adhesion. Be sure to wear a mask when sanding. Wipe off any sand particles with a clean, dry cloth.

Your surface should now be clean, dry and ready to be primed.
Step 2: Applying Primer
Move your box properly. This is important because if you do not move it enough, the primer will not mix properly and you will get an uneven coating. If in doubt, go beyond your expectations; You can move very little, but not much.

Hold the can 20-30 cm away from your surface and spray, move the can to the side, cover slightly. It is a good idea to keep the same distance as this will help the primer to be applied evenly.

Wait for the first coat to dry for about three minutes before repeating the second coat. If you feel the need, you can apply a third coat after the second coat has dried.
Step 3: Sanding
Wait 15 minutes for the primer to dry. Now, you can take the 400-grit wet or dry paper and sand once more with water. This will help the topcoat stick to the primer even better.

Now, your surface should be primed and ready for an overcoat.
