AR technology, when blended with VR, is one of the most immersive experiences you can have with technology as a whole. However, what often is the deal breaker is the cables and wires that are needed for this to work, and honestly, it’s too much work, and they break the immersion. When it comes to virtual reality, a survey has said that many people often fail to get completely immersed because of cables and wires. For a complete AR (Augmented Reality) or VR (Virtual Reality) experience, we need high-speed internet with a high-resolution display and wireless connectivity.

Qualcomm Ushers Wireless AR Smart Viewer Gets the Glasses Out of The Way for The Experience
Since the day VR glasses were introduced, comfort for long-term usage was a doubt everyone had. Using simple laptops and computers is different, but when tech becomes a clothing accessory of a sort, you need comfort, style as well as uncompromised specifications. It is obvious that Qualcomm’s fresh Wireless AR Smart Viewer glasses are no trendsetter in the fashion industry, but they are surely stylish in the tech world, and this was made possible ...
... by Goertek. They made the design 40% slimmer than Qualcomm’s previous-generation wired design. This assured comfort since the glasses weren’t as heavy now. The AR glasses successfully create a virtual world around you as you put them on because of the slight curve in the embedded screen. Qualcomm has partnered with SeeYa to manufacture double micro OLED binocular displays, which are capable of producing a 1920×1080 resolution of the image in each eye at up to 90Hz refresh rate with no-motion-blur technology! The glasses are so light, and the resolution is so high that even after long usage, there are no signs of tiredness or any other kind of discomfort in your eyes.

Qualcomm wireless glasses come with dual monochrome cameras and one RGB camera. The glasses have a 6DoF (six degrees of freedom) head, hands and eyes tracking and even gesture recognition, and all these features combined help in delivering the perfect virtual reality experience. You have control over it as well. Along with this, you have a 67 wHr battery that ‘on paper’ offers about a 30-minute run time. This high spec hardware needs strong processors and chipset, so Qualcomm got silicon technology.

Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 And FastConnect 6900 Divides the Workload and Minimize Latency
Great VR and AR experience needs low latency so that your movements are tracked precisely at the right time. This is why Qualcomm powers its glasses with a Snapdragon chipset Android smartphone. The phone is also having the responsibility of taking some of the workloads of the glasses, especially in the field of processing. This extra power comes in hand to smoothly run the XR application (Extended Reality – a term used to describe real and virtual combined environments), encoding and much of the rendering workload. The glasses themselves do not have a very high-grade chipset and work on Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1, but since it only manages video delivery, head, eye and hand tracking, it works well and saves battery. Qualcomm issued a statement that said that “Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 is a purpose-built platform for XR, built on the foundation of Snapdragon 865, featuring XR enablement focused on meeting the needs of a premium XR experience.” Moreover, this “split-processing” approach gives the user access to 5G connectivity on newer phone models. This is the key to essential AR applications that will take metaverse experience to the next level.

The connection between the phone and the glasses is made through Qualcomm’s service called “FastConnect 6900”. Using its “FastConnect’s XR Software Suite“, Qualcomm’s FastConnect 6900, along with BlueTooth chipset technology, is able to offer a greater speed and low latency connection over 5 to 6GHz bands. FastConnect is incorporated in the AR Smart Viewer as well as in the smartphone. This is the reason they are able to get sub-3ms latency within the phone and the glasses. This is a big deal since powering high-resolution glasses of 1080p and tracking motion with it is a crucial task and needs a lot of processing. Minimized latency, in this case, is something Qualcomm has achieved and should be given props for. Qualcomm did state that the AR SmartViewer design can work with Wi-Fi, but the ideal fit would always be FastConnect since it is designed for AR glasses specifically. We will hopefully see the day when wireless technologies will play dual 4K resolution displays at 90Hz at low latency.

Key Take-Aways
This is an impressive piece of technology and deserves much more recognition and praise than this article would suffice. After our team tested the glasses completely, we can say that it has managed to pull off the best visuals in almost any case. From watching cooking instructions to playing video games, everything is nicely done and quite immersive. The glasses aren’t completely blocking the environment, so you are always immersed yet aware. We did not experience any motion fatigue, but someone with eyesight issues or general motion sickness, in general, should be careful precautionarily. The images and objects that appear in the frame are photorealistic. Qualcomm has just begun, according to its statement, and would bring much better updates with time. However, the experience, even with lots of body movement, remains seamless.

Qualcomm’s Wireless AR Smart Viewer surely would give you an experience of a lifetime by letting people actually step into the metaverse. This is the future.

The market isn’t small for such technology, and it is not just metaverse and video games where will this will be used. Such high-quality AR VR glasses would enter the market of instructions, education, retail, sporting, and more. You could virtually sit in a stadium and watch a match live and have the closest experience to physically being there.

Conclusion
In a nutshell, the metaverse has finally arrived, and it is here to stay. With such technology at the back of our hands, we can expect more such incredible creations taking shape in the not-so-distant future.
