The various functions held in conjunction with the nuptials are diverse. It is recommended that you dress appropriately for the occasion. Your outfit selection should be based on the function and socially acceptable dress codes and should range from strictly traditional ensembles to new-age designer wear.

Ganesh Puja/ Tilak

The wedding ceremony is usually preceded by a Ganesh Puja, Shanti Havan, or Tilak ceremony. Your attire for the semi-formal event should be simple and comfortable. Because the ceremony may include a bonfire, cotton fabrics and loose-fitting garments are preferable. Lightweight printed or minimally embroidered kurta with dhoti or south Indian white lungi for men or roomy palazzo suits for women are ideal choices for the occasion.

Haldi ceremony

The Haldi ceremony is a messy but delightful event where you must choose your outfit very carefully. The bride and groom's faces are smeared with turmeric paste during the ritual. As a result, your party-wear garment may develop permanent yellow stains, rendering it useless. Yellow outfits ...
... are a good choice for two reasons: they conceal the messy appearance of turmeric stains, and yellow has almost become the official colour code for the Haldi ceremony. You can choose artificial flower jewellery or street-style tassel earrings as accessories because you won't be disappointed if you discard them later!

Mehendi party

The Mehendi function is one of the most joyous events of an Indian wedding, with hands decorated with henna designs and the scent of eucalyptus oil in the air. Although nowadays both the bride's and groom's families host a Mehendi party for their guests, it was traditionally only a function for the bride's family and friends. The atmosphere is bright and lively, with wedding music and dancing. Pink and pastels are popular colour palettes for Mehendi, but you can use any colour you want.

Sangeet

If you're going to an Indian wedding, the Sangeet is an event you won't want to miss! The Sangeet function, a melodious evening with enthusiastic dance performances by family and friends, matches the main wedding ceremony in terms of audience energy. Typically, the dress code is ethnic, with a lot of bling and dazzle.

Ring Ceremony

The exchange of rings between the couple a day or two before the wedding is a western cultural ritual. Ring ceremonies are typically devoid of cultural elements and may resemble a cocktail party. It's more like an evening ball, with the bride wearing a fairy-tale designer gown and the groom dressed as a prince charming. Grooms can wear a suit with an elegant Indo-western combination botton in flattering fabrics such as satin, georgette, and silk.

Wed-Lock ceremony/ Pheras

The Indian wed-lock ceremony is a beautiful moment to witness, with seven circles and seven vows. It strictly involves a series of religious rituals, so the dress code is strictly traditional wear. Avoid western silhouettes as much as possible and look for Indian outfits with graceful details.

Reception

The reception is a formal post-wedding celebration in which relatives, friends, and associates walk up to a decorated stage or highlighting backdrop and bless the newlywed couple. You may have to elevate your look to meet such a glittering crowd by indulging in heavy wedding wear.
Unless otherwise specified by the host, there is usually no dress code at the reception. As a result, you can dress in either traditional or Indo-western attire like a silk kurta over a cotton vest with a silk pyjama. Whatever outfit you choose, make sure it has a lot of glitter or dazzle.

Post-wedding functions

The bride changes from Miss to Mrs, and the family members are exhausted by this point, but the fun doesn't stop there! Following the reception, the girl bids farewell to her parents' family and returns to her husband's home. For this ritual, a Gujarati bride typically wears a Gharchola, which is also known as Gruh-Pravesh in many communities. The Muh-dikhai is also a post-wedding function where the bride meets for the first time her husband's extended family and social circle.

These rituals are performed on a larger scale in smaller Indian cities, whereas the fast-paced urban lifestyle has resulted in many of these functions being combined or simply avoided entirely. However, if you're going to any such intimate gatherings, you can dress up in a semi-formal salwar suit. You can also experiment with your look by wearing a fusion outfit that is both comfortable and easy to wear!
It's time to enjoy the festivities after you've sorted your look for each of the functions!
