It's a topic of debate about where momos have originated from but, it's said to be from Tibet and Nepal, and still widely spread through other parts of Asia. The authenticity of the dish remains in the Tibetan range, where it's always cold and hot steamed momos save the day. It's known differently in different parts like wontons, dim sum, dumplings, gyoza, mandu, and kothey. When momos were added to the snacks’ food chain initially, there used to be only stalls at which steamed momos with vegetable fillings and chicken fillings were made. However, there is a plethora of options to choose from now and even a better idea of ordering the go-to snack in the comfort of your home. Be it steamed, fried, gravy, tandoori or soupy. Tandoori momos can be vegetarian or non-vegetarian. Tandoori chicken momos are one of the most famous non-vegetarian options among the South Asian community. Along with this, there are wholly different kinds of stuffing used in these dumplings. For instance, carrots; cabbage; beans, paneer, chicken, cheese and so many other things from around different parts of Asia.

But honestly, one of the most commonly consumed momos is the veg momos, steamed with cabbage and carrot fillings are served with a spicy chili tomato chutney. Can’t go without the chutneys. A very easy DIY idea for making the chutney is using chili sauce and a spoonful of soy sauce; mix it well and there it is. If not, you can also boil 2-3 tomatoes along with dry red chilies; drain the water later and let the tomatoes cool down. Add chopped 2 chopped garlic, 1 tbs pepper, ½ teaspoon sugar, and salt to taste; grind it well in the blender making a smooth paste out of it. This chutney can be refrigerated and consumed for the next one week. However, the chutneys which are served in the eatery joints have a whole different taste and leave you wanting more.

You can always order momos online but there’s also a sense of accomplishment in making dishes at home. The following is going to be a recipe of veg momos, to make it very simple for you. Don’t miss out on this go-to snacking item. You will need all-purpose flour or wheat flour if you eating healthy, baking powder, onions, garlic, carrots, cabbage, soy sauce, vinegar, black pepper, and salt.
• Finely chop all the vegetables. Add ½ tbs baking powder to the flour; knead the dough and make a thin paper-like base for the momos.
• Saute the vegetables, add salt to taste, vinegar, and soy sauce to it later. If you are going for veg steam momos, don’t add any other sauces to it. However, if you want it spicy, add a spoonful of chili sauce to it.
• Add the sauteed vegetables as fillings on the thin paper-like base and fold it from the corners in such a way that it doesn’t open up later.
• To steam the momos, take a vessel, an idli cooker preferably. Add water to the cooker, half or ¾ glass depending on how big your vessel is.
• After adding water, place the momos on a vessel over it and cover it for 10 minutes.
• READY TO INDULGE with the spicy chutney.
