Take a look at the 10 best championship-worthy sports movies you can watch at home and have a fun weekend.
There is a rift between the movie and sports lovers because most famous sports movies are very bad. They often include corny and unnecessary stuff with a mediocre understanding of the sports involved and fail to depict the best of it. Sports lovers have often been disappointed due to the poor adaptation of the game they love by the film industry because even top A-rated actors sometimes fail to do justice to the rules. Therefore, we get your hands on only the 10 best championship-worthy movies that have done considerable justice to the sport.

High flying bird
High flying bird

This is a basketball-based movie by Steven Soderbergh, who shot the movie on an iPhone. This movie gives you in-depth details into the complicated dynamics of business in sports. It is a unique movie because it is entirely shot on an iPhone with a script by Terrell Alvin McCraney, making it a great watch.

The freshman
The freshman

This movie is based on football that revolves around a student called Harold ...
... lamb who wants to be cool around his gang. However, the best way he could find out to be cool was by joining a football team. This movie is filled with hilarious gags and the situations on a real football court. It is great to see a sports-based movie with comic and punch lines that do not fade and, at the same time, do not take the sports away from the movie.

Lagan
Lagan

This is a Bollywood movie based on cricket. The movie revolves around a small Indian village in the 20th century exploited by the British Army captain, who mistreats the villagers and raises taxes on them despite the village suffering from an intense drought. The cricket captain against the villagers challenges a high stack cricket game to sort out their protests. This movie is a must-watch because it contains every essence of cinema, dance, and emotions and remains true to the sport.

Moneyball
Moneyball

This movie is based on baseball and is adapted from a non-fiction book. The story revolves around Billy Beane, who tries his best to uplift the Oakland Athletics team. However, based on his statistical analysis, he doesn’t follow the norm and takes his team’s overlooked and disregarded players. The best thing about the movie is that Bean, a role played by Brad Pitt, is the actual hero of the movie. Though the plot is very dry, the script and filmmaking craft is outstanding, making you lured into the movie from the start to the end.

Rush
Rush

Rush is a movie based on the sport Formula One. This movie brings one of the greatest rivalries in Formula One to the big screen and portrays the battle between Niki Lauda and James Hunt for the world championship of 1976. It must be noted that Nikki Lauda is a disciplined racer and is a mastermind, whereas James Hunt is a Playboy. However, both the roles have been playing extremely well, and the sport is very much involved in the movie because the racing scenes are pitch-perfect. Every time the races were on the field, it felt like a real Formula One racing championship.

Shaolin soccer
Shaolin soccer

This movie is based on two sports, soccer and Shaolin Kung Fu. Directed by Stephen Chow, this sport-comedy revolves around a student who, after having a tough try with a disgraced ex-soccer player, groups with his fellow students and competes in a soccer tournament to spread the achievements of Shaolin Kung Fu. Chow is known for his physical humour, action and theatrics. While you may feel that you are watching a particular scene for five minutes, half an hour will pass by, and you will still not realize that the scene is not overdue to the impromptu comedy in every action. Instead, it is an underdog sports drama that brings into light soccer and Charlene Kung Fu with greater attention.

Twilight
Twilight

While most of you may wonder why twilight is included in this list, it is more about vampires and the love triangle between the werewolves. However, it also needs to be noted that it is a Great American baseball movie. Though vampires take most of the plot, you cannot neglect the fact that it includes an intense game of American baseball, as the vampires can only play during thunderstorms. In addition, you can see one vampire running fast the rival, and it is during this game that the rival vampires sniff the human sent from Bella and hunts her for the rest of the movie. But, of course, this brings the movie to many other plots, and that’s the power of a simple baseball game.

Warrior
Warrior

Warrior is based on MMA and revolves around two brothers who face each other in a massive MMA tournament to prove their might. Both roles are terrific with electrifying action scenes. It would be best to watch this movie because it has everything; there is MMA, action scenes, emotional background and story, and a zeal to prove something. This is what movies should be about, isn’t it?

Minding the gap
Minding the gap

This is Louise’s documentary filmed in 2018 about skateboarding. The movie is about two best friends who grow up in Rockford and share a strong connection for their love of skateboarding. It would be best to watch this movie because it portrays adolescence and growth. It subtly incorporates the toxic masculinity around American culture and how young adolescent boys prey on it.

I, Tonya
I, Tonya

Tonya Harding was quite a tabloid sensation when she was linked for a physical assault on her rival Nancy Kerrigan during the Winter Olympics of 1994. this movie has a blend of everything, including a documentary, broad comedy and a crime satire. It depicts the role of Harding, who is surrounded by a bunch of snobs, and her real-life story wherein she is bullied by her mother. It is dark and compassionate and tells us the darker side of every sport as well.

The bottom line
The list ends here, but we hope that the film industry will produce sports movies that will very much be added to the list. While every viewer has a different perspective, you too may have some movies in your mind that you perceive to be championship-worthy and would want that movie to be included here. If so, we hope that those movies will make it to this list some day.
