IVF treatment

IVF literally means "fertilizing in a glass". The procedure involves fertilizing the egg with the sperm in an incubator outside the body, then transferring the best embryo to the woman's uterus in the hope of conceiving.

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a type of adjuvant reproductive technology (ART) used to treat infertility that may not respond to other medical or surgical interventions. IVF has been around for over 40 years and is now commonly used around the world to bring healthy babies into the world. Since the birth of the first IVF baby, Louise Brown, in 1978, the auxiliary reproductive process has welcomed over 5 million happy bundles around the world.

In the natural menstrual cycle, hormones in the pituitary gland, luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), cause the growth of eggs in the ovarian fluid-filled space (follicle). Although several follicles begin to grow each month, in the natural cycle, only one egg will mature enough to release. Ovulation is caused by a sudden increase in LH in the middle of the cycle, which occurs two weeks before menstruation.
