Cold Sores are painful, fluid-filled and small blisters or sores which usually appear on the mouth, lips or nose which are caused by a virus. Usually it lasts for few days but this sore can be very painful. They are caused by herpes simplex virus. Often they are mistaken by a contagious mouth ulcer called canker sores. Cold sores are contagious. It occurs on the skin, mostly on the lips which is adjacent to mouth. Sometimes they may occur on nostrils, fingers, genitals and chin. Medically the cold sores are famous by the name of recurrent herpes labialis.

Some major signs and symptoms of cold sores are small, painful fluid filled blisters. These blisters are of red or brown color. They can be seen on the skin easily. Sometimes these blisters may burst and ooze. If anyone gets infected by the virus he or she may suffer from headache, irritability and fever. Patient may have problem in swallowing any liquid or food stuff. Swelling of lips and itching are very common. Sometimes there is a swelling of the lymph nodes on the neck. These symptoms may last from seven to ten days.

Cold sores can be treated effectively with the help of home remedy. Some of the popular home remedies to cure cold sore -

1. A good home remedy for cold sores is the application of sores. Rub the ice on the skin which is affected, for few minutes. Repeat this remedy every hour. It is an effective remedy for cold sore.

2. To reduce the complication of blisters you can also apply tea bags on the blisters for few minutes. Repeat this remedy in every hour. You can also apply a warm tea bag and press it on the blisters for 30 minutes.

3. Aloe vera gel or oil is also an effective remedy for reducing the complication of cold sores. You can gently rub the aloe vera gel over the affected area.

4. To reduce the symptoms of cold sores and for the fast healing up of the cold sores an extract of lemon balm is very effective.
