5 Things To Avoid While Backpacking In Himachal Pradesh
Summers are marching in and it's time to pack our bags and head to the mountains to beat the summers. During summers, it's a common scene wherein families and groups head to the mountains for vacation and the recent addition, Staycation.
So, if you are an individual or a gang of friends who are thinking of heading to the mountains and making them your workplace for some time, then Himachal is your destination.
Himachal Pradesh has been the favourite destination for many from time immemorial. The fact that Himachal is India's mountain capital and also for the fact that almost every town, village and city in Himachal is beautiful, a lot of people from different parts of the world travel to Himachal Pradesh.
However, planning a trip to Himachal and especially a backpacking trip needs some care and caution. So, it's indeed a great idea if you plan to visit Himachal or a trip to Dalhousie this summer. We all know what to backpack, but here we bring you, what you should not backpack when you plan ...
... a trip to Dalhousie:
1. Too many to carry:
The first thing that you must remember when you are planning a backpacking trip to Dalhousie is to travel light. Avoid carrying unnecessary pairs of shoes, woollen wear and more. Stuff your bag with one good pair of woollen wear, some t-shirts and a pair of jeans. Considering that Himachal is very picturesque, people tend to pack too many outfits to make every picture a memorable one. However, remember that it's not the outfit but the environment that shall always steal the show. It is very imperative you travel light because, if you plan to trek or indulge in adventurous activities, having too much luggage can prove to be a burden.
2. Do not just depend on Credit/debit cards as a mode of payment:
Yes, you may say that carrying cash on travel can be risky as it can be stolen. However, one thing that you must remember when you plan a trip to Dalhousie is to ensure to carry some cash, especially for paying the local taxi guys, autos or local vendors. You may say that, instead of cash why not use money apps? However, remember mountains are mightier and there is a possibility you may not get great signals always. Therefore, always retain cash and ensure to keep it safe.
3. Do not get carried away and get high with strangers:
A lot of backpack travellers, when they visit Himachal are tempted to get high. It is not legally wrong but getting high and going overboard can expose you to theft and threat. Therefore, beware of over-friendly strangers. Always make sure of keeping your belongings safe. One of the common sights that you get to see in Himachal is the foreigners. Walk-in any part of Himachal and you would bump into foreigners quite often. Don't get overwhelmed seeing them nor get too friendly. Keep the interaction simple and pass by type.
4. Do not plan to travel if you are not physically fit:
Travelling itself needs some level of physical strength and if you choose to travel to Himachal, then mind you, you must ensure you are physically fit. From being at a higher altitude, the oxygen level can become an issue if you are unfit. The one thing that everyone should try when they plan a trip to Dalhousie, is trekking. However, any basic trek in and around Dalhousie or for that matter anywhere in Himachal would take 4 hours and maximum depending on the trek path you choose. Therefore, if you are someone who is not used to this kind of lifestyle or travel or are not physically fit, then it's better you avoid a trip to Himachal. Himachal is a place that, even if you don't trek, must be explored
by walking mostly.
5. Do not behave irresponsibly: It is a common sight that when people travel to Himachal, the beauty of the towns and the people is very enticing. It is out of this attraction that people click pictures. However, act responsible, and seek permission before clicking pictures. Especially at the various Montessories and heritage buildings, check with the authorities and click pictures. Also, ensure you don't litter or disfigure or scribble on the rocks. Do not litter or pollute the environment. Ensure you don't throw plastics anywhere except dustbins.
Hope you made note of these pointers and we wish you remember them when you plan your trip to Himachal.
As a signing of note, we would say, as much as you pay attention to travel light for a backpacking trip, you should also ensure you plan your trip before you reach Himachal. When we say the plan, we mean that you plan the places you wish to visit and stay in advance.
