Neue Auctions' online-only auction coming up on Saturday, March 26th, will have an emphasis on English antiques, fine art and Chinese Export, pulled from private estates and collections, beginning at 10 am Eastern time. Nearly 300 lots will come up for bid. Online bidding will be provided by LiveAuctioneers.com, Invaluable.com and Bidsquare.com.

“There is a very nice selection of items in this sale in many categories and from multiple periods, to include English Regency, George III, William & Mary, William IV and Louis XV,” said Cynthia Maciejewski of Neue Auctions. “Consignments are from Gates Mills, Hunting Valley, Pepper Pike and Shaker Heights, and some of the items were owned and sold by James London Antiques (in New London, Conn.) and Israel Sack American Antiques (in New York City).”

Maciejewski added, “There are few reserves because we trust the educated bidders participating in our auctions, who understand the importance and rarity of these items. We're confident the bidding will be competitive and the winning bids will land within or supersede our conservative estimations. This auction kicks ...
... off a very busy season for us. We’re booked solid through June.”

The battle for top lot honors could come down to a contest between a vase and a pair of bronzes. The baluster form vase by Paul Francois Berthoud (French, 1870-1939), titled Femme Libellule (circa 1900), is both rare and massive, at 25 inches tall. It’s cast with the face of a woman with flowing hair supported by dragonfly wings and feathers, the base cast with Queen Anne's Lace flowers (est. $12,000-$15,000). The patina exhibits verdigris and oxidation.

The bronzes, both of them rare, with green verdigris patina, are by William MacMonnies (American, 1863-1937). Each has an estimate of $10,000-$12,000. One, titled Diana, is 31 inches tall and is signed and dated 1890. The other, titled Pioneer Mother, is 15 inches tall and was designed and cast in monumental form for the Pioneer Monument in Denver, Colorado, erected in 1911. Both carry the foundry mark for Jaboeuf & Rouard in Paris.

China Trade, Chinese Export and Chinese School lots will be plentiful and include the following:

- A 19th century oil on canvas China Trade painting titled The Bund at Shanghai (circa 1850-55), unsigned and framed, 17 ¼ inches by 23 inches (canvas) (est. $3,000-$5,000).

- A 19th century Chinese School oil painting titled American Clipper Ship Mary Entering Hong Kong (circa 1850-60), 22 inches by 28 inches (as framed) (est. $2,000-$4,000).

- An early 19th century Chinese Export lacquer child's sewing stand, the shaped hinged top decorated with chinoiseries in gilding on brown/black lacquer, monogrammed 'Mary,' the top opening to a fitted interior (est. $1,500-$3,000).

The English offerings will be just as abundant. A few expected star lots are as follows:

- A set of four Georgian mahogany hall chairs, circa 1785, with arched crests over mahogany backs, the armorial crest centering the back, each monogrammed with the letter ‘B’ beneath a hand painted oval tablet armorial, depicting a crowned bust, purportedly for the Third Baron Boston of England (est. $2,500-$4,500).

- An English Victorian table-top letterbox by Halstaff & Hannaford (London), of octagonal pillar form, set with a domed glass enclosing an enamel dial compass, with an enameled letter flap over a hinged locking door with a brass framed glass receptacle displaying postage rates, 20 inches by 11 inches (est. $2,000-$4,000).

- A 19th century English Regency (or Victorian) oak jockey scale, incorporating a leather upholstered seat with a tufted back over upholstered arms and seat, with nail head trim, the scale labeled 'To Weigh 24 Stone, ' over a drawer containing the weights (5) on a conforming base and sturdy turned legs (est. $2,000-$4,000).

An oil on canvas painting by the late 19th century British artist H. D. Williams, titled The Magnet Coach, bearing the Frost and Reed label, 29 inches by 41 inches (as framed) and signed lower left, should realize $2,000-$4,000; while a 19th century oil on canvas laid on panel American School house portrait by an unknown artist (inscribed and obscured on verso) measuring 11 inches by 14 inches (sight, less frame) has an estimate of $200-$400.

The online-only auction will be clerked live on auction day by Neue Auctions team members. The catalog is up now and posted live on the three bidding sites. Phone and absentee bids will be taken.

Neue Auctions has a full slate of auctions planned for spring and early summer, beginning with a Fine Interiors auction on Saturday, April 30th; followed by a May Modern Sale on Saturday, May 28th; then an auction featuring the superb Asian & Antiques Collection of Dr. Marvin Drucker on Saturday, June 25th. All three will be online-only auctions and will start at 10 am Eastern time.
