Signs That Indicate You Have Oral Cancer

Oral cancer, also known as oral cavity cancer, occurs in the mouth or throat and can spread quickly if left untreated. It’s usually caused by smoking or the use of tobacco products or by the consumption of alcohol. The earlier you catch oral cancer, the better your chances are of successfully fighting it and preventing it from spreading to other parts of your body, so knowing the signs of oral cancer could save your life. Here are a few tell-tale signs, as suggested by dentist Epping, of oral cancer
Lump In Your Mouth
One of most common symptoms is a lump or mass in your mouth that doesn’t seem to go away. This could indicate a tumour or growth, which should be checked out by your dentist as soon as possible. Oral cancer can progress quickly, so if you notice any new lumps in your mouth, get them checked out by a dentist right away!
Persistent Sore Throat
People who are suffering from throat cancer tend to have persistent sore throats that don’t improve with treatment. Of course, it’s normal for people to get sore throats every now and then, but if you’re sick frequently or your throat ...
... is perpetually sore, it could be a sign of something more serious. Call the dental clinic Epping and consider scheduling an appointment with your dentist if you aren’t feeling better after two weeks.
Unexplained Weight Loss
A lack of appetite is common with many cancers, including those in your mouth. If you’re not feeling hungry, or have lost a noticeable amount of weight since your last check-up, ask your doctor about it. Often these symptoms can indicate early-stage disease that may be treatable if caught soon enough.
Mouth Sores That Do Not Heal
Oral cancers may cause sores in your mouth that fail to heal, but other types of mouth problems can also leave sores that are slow to heal. See a Epping dental professional if you notice a sore in your mouth that doesn’t go away. This is especially important if there is any discoloration on or around the area (it should be pink or red) or it looks irregular (like an oval shape instead of round). Sores caused by benign conditions such as cold sores and ulcers will probably be smaller than 1/2 inch and typically won’t have much of a yellow halo around them.
Changes in the Colour or Shape of Your Tongue
Your tongue is normally pink. But if you see red or white patches on your tongue, and they don’t go away after a few days, you might have oral cancer. Your doctor can confirm it by looking at your mouth during an exam.
Please don’t ignore these warnings sigs of oral cancer. The earlier you treat, the better chances of reversing. For further queries, speak to your dentist.
