We've all had that one lucky friend who seems to be able to eat whatever and whenever they want without gaining weight. Alternatively, many of us are continuously tracking calories and working out hard, but there is no noticeable difference in our weight. Our metabolism holds the key to comprehending this paradox.

Many of us struggle with weight loss. Thus, it is essential to understand what metabolism is, how it impacts our weight and how we can boost it naturally.

Metabolism is the chemical process through which a living creature maintains its life by turning food and drink into energy. Even while we are sleeping, our bodies require energy to maintain vital organs, such as blood circulation, respiration, digestion and cell repair operating properly. The basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the minimal amount of energy required by our body to carry out these chemical processes.

Individuals differ in their basal metabolic rate. Body composition, age, gender and heredity are all important factors in influencing metabolic rate. Because of the decrease of muscle mass, metabolism slows down steadily as people age.

1. Never skip breakfast

Breakfast kick-starts your metabolism and keeps it running for the rest of the day if you eat every three hours. You'll miss out on several hours of calorie-burning if you get up early and have a late breakfast. Rather than obsessing over the size of your breakfast plate, focus on the types of items you include. A study suggests that low sugar and high-protein foods should be taken in breakfast if you want to rev up your system.

2. Stay hydrated

It is vital to keep the body hydrated in order for it to function well. Water is required for all chemical events in the body, including metabolism and it may also aid in weight loss. Water is a vital component and part of a healthy diet because it not only eliminates toxins from the body but also boosts the metabolic rate.

3. Eat lots of protein

Protein should be a big part of your diet if you want to rev up your metabolic engine. Protein has a high thermic effect, which means it takes more energy for your body to absorb and digest nutrients, which is great for fat loss. When you eat a lot of protein, your body utilizes more energy to accomplish all of its critical physiological activities, which naturally increases your calorie expenditure. Some examples of protein-rich food are lean meats, eggs, dairy products, beans, etc.

4. Green Tea

We all know the amazing benefits of green tea/. Drinking brewed green tea is a good way to receive caffeine while also providing your body with Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCC), a metabolism-boosting component. Green tea is a healthy alternative to sugary drinks and drinking it throughout the day can help a person acquire enough hydration.

5. Resistance training

Resistance training is not only a brilliant way to sculpt and build muscle, but it's also one of the most effective strategies to boost metabolism speed. You burn more calories all day long if you have a higher metabolism, and the more lean muscle you have, the more muscle you burn. Bodies naturally lose muscle mass as we age. If you do resistance training often, you can prevent muscle loss.

6. Make fibre your friend

Because fibre is indigestible, eating a high-fibre diet promotes metabolism. Soluble fibre absorbs water as it is digested and keeps you fuller for longer, but insoluble fibre just travels through the system, enabling us in passing our food. The body expends more calories trying to digest and remove fibre than it would with other foods. As a result, digesting high-fibre diets burns more calories than digesting refined carbohydrates. You can include foods like whole grains, dried fruits, broccoli, flax seeds, lentils and banana in your diet to get fibre.

7. Spice it up

Chilli and jalapeno peppers have been proved to enhance your metabolism by increasing the production of hormones like adrenaline, which raises your calorie burn. Capsaicin, the chemical that gives chilli peppers their heat, can speed up your metabolism. Cooking with a spoonful of green or red chilli or Tabasco pepper can help you burn more calories.

8. Reduce stress

If you want to accelerate your metabolism, you'll need to manage your stress levels. Stress management is essential for a healthy metabolism since it maximizes your fat-burning potential. But, let's face it, stress is a normal part of life and in moderation, a little stress may be beneficial to our health. The goal is to avoid allowing stress to overwhelm you and interfere with your regular activities. When stress strikes, make sure you have a plan in place to de-stress and refocus.

9. Get enough sleep

Our body needs sleep to function well and stay healthy. People who go to bed late and sleep less than the recommended 6-7 hours are more stressed and have more visceral fat, which refers to the fat that surrounds the internal organs, according to previous studies. Because sleep deprivation disrupts the body's circadian cycle, your metabolism may slow as your body seeks to conserve its resources. So, if you want to speed up your metabolism, you can't ignore a good night's sleep.

The bottom line…

If your metabolism is weak, the energy you consume from food may not be burned off during the day. Your body must expend that extra energy someplace, and for those of us who struggle with weight gain, that place is always fat around your body and organs.

A person's metabolism can be increased by adopting healthy dietary and lifestyle habits. There are various techniques to help enhance metabolism, from reducing stress to combining resistance training into a workout.

However, before tweaking your diet or changing your workout program, it's advisable to see your doctor.
