Buying exercise equipment can be a very expensive venture. It's not uncommon to spend more than $1000 on a single piece of fitness equipment. Before you go out and break the bank in an attempt to buy a nice treadmill, stepper, or exercise bike however, take note of some of these little known tips.

The first thing that you should know, is that a lot of exercise equipment is sold at garage sales. Often, buying used exercise equipment is almost as good as buying them brand new. That's because a lot of the time when people sell them at garage sales, they are trying to get rid of them because they bought them and quickly lost interest in exercising. That means that a lot of the fitness equipment at garage sales will be close to brand new condition.

But, even if it is not in brand new condition it will probably work just as well. It's nearly guaranteed that you will find at least one used treadmill if you visit about five garage sales. Fortunately, this is good news for you, as "almost new" equipment can save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

You should also think about buying exercise equipment ...
... online. There are several great resources, of which two really stand out. The first of which is eBay dot com, which is a very popular auction site where people will sell things that they own in an auction style format. The other online resource for buying equipment is through craigslist dot com. Craigslist is a gigantic classified ads web site where people can post ads for anything that they want to buy or sell. If you live in a well populated area, you may be able to find some very cheap equipment sold closeby in your own neighborhood.

Lastly, before you consider buying a exercise equipment, you should think about if you really even need it. Many times buying a monthly membership to a local gym or community center is a less expensive choice, and you will have many different exercise options available. But whether you want to set up your own home gym, or buy a health club membership, the final choice is up to you.
