When you install MS Exchange 2000 Server or Exchange Server 2003, you might have examined a series of logs getting generated and stopping Exchange Server from starting up. MS Exchange Information Store (IS) service may not start, and you may receive the following event IDs 1121 and 5000 as error messages in the Application event log, stating the following:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeIS
Event Category: General
Event ID: 1121
Date: 5/17/2000
Time: 10:24:43 AM
User: N/A
Computer: Computer_Name
Description: Error 0x8004010f connecting to the Microsoft Active Directory.

Or, something like this
Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeIS
Event Category: General
Event ID: 5000
Date: 5/17/2000
Time: 10:24:43 AM
User: N/A
Computer: Computer_Name
Description: Unable to initialize the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service. Error 0x8004010f.

... Reasons behind these event IDs
This behavior may occur if the organization name that you select during setup contains the forward slash mark (/) character. For example, the name Organization/Europe causes this behavior.

This behavior may also occur if you have unchecked or removed the SMTP and X400 addresses from the default recipient policy. Versions of Microsoft Exchange Server older than MS Exchange Server 2007 must have both SMTP and X400 proxy addresses specified and enabled for the default recipient policy. Exchange 2007 requires only SMTP.
Resolution
First of all you make sure that you are not using any special characters in organization names or in administrative group names at the time of setting up of Exchange Server. There are some characters that are not supported in the names of organization and administrative groups. These include ampersand (&), angle brackets (< >), asterisk (*), at sign (@), backslash (\), braces ({ }), brackets ([ ]), caret (^), colon (:), comma (,), dollar sign ($), equal sign (=), exclamation point (!), forward slash mark (/), grave accent (`), number sign (#), parentheses (( )), percent (%), period (.), pipe (|), plus sign (+), question mark (?), quotation marks (" "), semicolon (;), single quotation marks (' '), tilde (~), underscore (_).
However, you can use the following list of characters freely in organization names or in administrative group names, while setting up Exchange Server.
hyphen (-)
lowercase letters from a through z
numbers from 0 through 9
space ( )
uppercase letters from A through Z
If you are still unable to access Exchange Server, then this may be the case of corruption. With Exchange Server recovery software you can repair Exchange database by shunning away all corruption issues. Software to repair Exchange database helps you to recover user mailboxes and their emails from exchange database files which may be corrupt, inaccessible, corrupt, virus contaminated and not responding.
