Outlook Express shows abrupt symptoms and displays error messages on finding its message folders corrupt. It creates an individual file with the extension .dbx (in Outlook Express 5.0 and later) for each of the folders that you see listed in Local Folders list. When the Sent Items or Outbox folder is damaged, Outlook Express might crash or prompt errors on each attempt of sending an e-mail message. Irrespective of the reason, you can restore the lost e-mails in such cases either from a suitable backup or by running an Outlook Express Recovery solution that can repair and restore the corrupted *.dbx files.

For instance, consider the following problem with Outlook Express. Suppose you use Outlook Express for several official and personal purposes with large number of e-mails stored in its Sent Items and other folders. But suddenly you realize that you cannot send e-mails from Outlook Express. Each time you create a new e-mail message and click 'Send', it is not sent and the below error message displays on the screen:

Application error in Msimn.exe. Exception: ...
... access violation (0xc0000005) address 0x5f5875b6.

You can receive the e-mails, but cannot send any of the e-mails.

Cause

The above issue is the outcome of one of the below possible reasons:

I.Outbox.dbx file is damaged
II.SentItems.dbx file is damaged

Solution

For resolving the depicted issue, one of the solutions is to move all the Outlook Express *.dbx files from their original location to another location. You can then import those files back in Outlook Express for further access.

Importing e-mails from corrupted folders is feasible only when you can open and access them. If the corrupted folders are inaccessible, the only solution is to repair them. Outlook Express doesn't provide any utility for repairing its folders. So, you need to take aid of a third-party Mail Recovery solution.

An Outlook Express Recovery software can scan a corrupted OE *.dbx file using safe algorithms to restore its e-mails to a safe location. With their user-friendly design, you may find these utilities easy to comprehend and implement.

Stellar Phoenix Outlook Express Recovery( http://www.outlookexpress-recovery.com ) is a simple yet effective tool designed for repairing corrupted *.dbx files and for restoring all the e-mail data as new *.dbx and *.eml file(s). This Mail Recovery software supports Outlook Express 5.x and Outlook Express 6.x. This is a simple utility that incorporates non-destructive algorithms for secure file repair.
