Tiffany lamps have been popular for over a century, being considered an all-American classic. They come in various models and styles, including table lamps, floor lamps, ceiling fixtures, pendant lighting, and chandeliers. But just what is a Tiffany style lamp, and why is it popular? For starters, the name comes from Louis Comfort Tiffany, a great painter and designer of decorative art. He was the son of Charles Lewis Tiffany who founded the highly regarded jewelry retailer, Tiffany & Co. In 1878, Louis Comfort Tiffany launched his own company, Louis C. Tiffany & Co., producing its first stained-glass figure window.

In 1885, he worked with Thomas Edison to develop the decorative and stage lighting of New York's Lyceum Theater, the first theater to have electric illumination. Highly innovative, Louis came up with the idea to use the bits and pieces of discarded glass from the stained glass windows he was making to make decorative lamps. And the result is a style of lamps that now bears his name. The first Tiffany lamp was introduced in 1899. It had a heavy bronze base that had various patterns including the ...

The following year, the first electric table lamp is produced and exhibited in Paris. The company, changing its name to Tiffany Studios in 1902, continued to develop other products, including picture frames, boxes for cigars and jewelry, planters, and spun metal dishes. It developed a kind of glass in 1913, the Tiffany linen-fold, which is used exclusively for lamp shades. Louis C. Tiffany retired from active participation in his company in 1913, establishing the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation in 1919. He died in 1933 at the age of 85.

Tiffany lamps have a wonderful, rich history and will add elegance and style to any room in your home. Why not consider a Tiffany lamp if you need to spruce any room?
