High Temperature Coating Types And Features
A coating can be a coating that is applied to the surface of an object, commonly called a substrate. The goal of applying the coating is also decorative, functional or both. The coating itself can also be a composite coating, which completely covers the substrate or it only covers the components of the substrate. Examples of all those styles of coating can be the product labels on many beverage bottles - one aspect is related to the whole purpose coating (adhesive) and so the alternative aspect has one or more decorative coatings in the appropriate pattern (print) for word formation. And pictures.
Many industrial coating processes involve the application of a thin film of the desired material on a substrate such as paper, fabric, film, foil or sheet stock. If the method starts and ends when the substrate rolls, can this method be called "roll-to-roll" or "web-based" coating? The role of substrate after removing the wound from the coating machine is commonly known as web. The coating is also applied as a liquid, gaseous or solid.
Several methods exist to evaluate coatings, including destructive and non-destructive ...
... methods. The most common destructive methods are microscopy of the coating and mounted cross-section of the substrate. The most common non-destructive techniques include ultrasonic thickness measurement, XRF coatings thickness measurement, and ultra-micro hardness testing.
High Temperature resistant coating is used in many industries and markets to prevent corrosion of steel subject to extreme temperatures. Several test protocols are used to evaluate the performance of those coatings; However, comparing performance is challenging due to the lack of uniformity or consistency in the test methods. This article lists the industries and markets that use heat-resistant coatings, describes common types of products available with different test protocols, and presents the results of non-uniform comparisons of performance before installation.
Temperature resistant coating are frequently used in the aerospace, manufacturing, military, petrochemical and energy industries for a variety of plants / facilities using piping, fireproofing, jet engines, offshore rigs, basic equipment and high-temperature processes.
High-temperature coating types and features are:
Types of high-temperature coatings, usually composed of organic or inorganic materials, usually contain epoxy, epoxy phenolic, epoxy novolac, silicone or more specific multi-polymeric matrix.
Types of High Temperature Coating
Epoxy coatings
Epoxy coatings are commonly used in oilfield, offshore and petrochemical facilities applications and are suitable for their impact and abrasion resistance. Epoxy coatings are organic polymers formed by chemical reactions between epoxy resins and co-reactants / hardeners / therapeutics. Epoxy is also a thermoset, which once cured cannot be melted and replaced in vinyl or plastic cans. Excessive heat can damage chemical bonds in thermosets and cause them to deteriorate, lose color, lose elasticity and / or become brittle. Epoxy resins are also responsible for radiation and can become chalk when exposed to sunlight.
Epoxy phenolic
Epoxy phenolic Coatings are classified as either ambient treatment, during which phenolic and epoxy resins undergo chemical reactions or heat treatment, where the coating has to withstand 350-400 F to accelerate the treatment or to activate the catalyst or curing agent. The coating provides epoxy phenolic chemical, solvent and temperature resistance and is commonly used for immersion service, tank lining and high-temperature oil and sea immersion service.
Epoxy novolac
Epoxy novolac coatings show improved heat resistance due to the presence of fragrances in their molecular structure, with more cross-linking than other epoxy. Novolac epoxy is generally heat resistant up to 350 -360 F. In general, Novolac epoxy is known to be more resistant to oxidizing and non-oxidizing acids and other epoxy than aliphatic and aromatic solvents. These properties make Novolac epoxy an alternative for use as a tank lining with high-temperature acidic crude oil.
Silicone
Silicon coatings contain resins that are either pure or hybrid polymers, and organic pendant groups attached to inorganic particles of optional silicon and oxygen atoms. The polymer composition provides thermal stability and oxidation resistance. Silicones are transparent from sunlight to ultraviolet. High-temperature, 100% silicone coatings are single component and cured by heat-induced polymerization.
Applications of heat resistant coating are:

There are various tests however there are relatively few common protocols designed for high-temperature coating that evaluate their performance for a given service area. The protective coatings industry will benefit from standardized growth; Acceptable evaluation techniques for Temperature resistant coating for corrosion prevention.
