It's not surprising that there are so many different types of Indian men's wear in such a vast and diverse country as India, where climate and geography are as varied as religion and culture. Almost every region of the country has its own style of Indian men's clothing.

From the kurtas of the north to the dhotis of the south, or the south Indian white lungi, to everything in between, men can be sure to find traditional menswear in India to suit their culture and fashion sense.

Indian men dress up in a variety of clothes available in the market, thanks to the plethora of options in Indian men's ethnic wear. During certain festivals, Indian men dress in a variety of clothing that is considered traditional in their community or area.

Kurta Pajama

One of the most common clothes worn by Indian men is the kurta pyjama. This clothing is typically worn in the north, but it has gained popularity in the south as well. The Mughals popularised the kurta pyjama. It has been accepted and assimilated into Indian culture. A kurta pyjama, as the name implies, ...
... is made up of two parts: the pyjama, which is a type of loose-fitting trouser, and the kurta, which is a long shirt worn as upper wear. The loose fit and lightweight of the kurta pyjama make it an ideal choice for the summer heat.

Sherwani

The sherwani is another important part of Indian men's fashion. Because of the shape of the top and the cuts used, a sherwani can be considered formal clothing. As a result, it is typically worn for formal occasions such as religious ceremonies, major festivals, and so on. A sherwani is the top of the dress, and men typically wear churidars on the bottom; however, dhotis are also a popular option. Sherwanis are distinguished by their broad shoulders and padded chest, giving them a regal and stately appearance.

Nehru Jackets

When it comes to wearing Indian men's clothes, Nehru jackets are also a popular choice. A Nehru jacket can be sleeveless or full-sleeved, but its distinguishing feature is its collar. A Nehru jacket's collar is a high round neck collar. It is typically worn over a kurta, with pyjamas or churidars underneath.

Paithani Suits

Suits, such as the Paithani suit, are an essential part of an Indian man's wardrobe. Paithani suits, as well as Jodhpuri suits and other types of Indian men's suits, are the quintessential Indian wear for formal occasions. Depending on your preferences, the Paithani suit can be very elaborate or very simple.

Many fashion designers nowadays have combined traditional menswear looks and styles with western cuts and designs to create indo western clothing, which has become extremely popular among India's youth. The best thing about Indo Western clothing is that it allows wearers to be flexible. It is not uncommon for them to be worn with both western-style leather shoes and Indian mojaris or jutis.

In general, traditional menswear in India is very adaptable. It can be made from a wide range of fabrics and textiles. These range from traditional textiles like cotton, linen, silk, and so on to modern synthetic materials like polyester, lurex, and so on. The work on these outfits can range from simple Resham embroidery to intricate zari, zardozi, aari, or booti work. Vibrant and appealing prints like Batik and Sanganeri are frequently used to decorate casual wear kurtas, whereas zari borders and subtle embroidery are frequently featured on formal wear sherwanis.

Style Tips

The costume options for Indian men are also quite diverse, especially when you consider the numerous festivals and occasions. So, by simply adding a simple accessory to the majority of Indian men's clothes, one can have the perfect outfit for any occasion. In fact, rather than purchasing a separate wedding gown for Indian men, most people simply create their own with the right accessories.

Wedding attire for many Indian men can be as simple as their best kurta pyjama or sherwani, paired with an elaborate turban and mojaris to really accentuate their appearance. While the groom wears a red turban and juttis to his wedding, guests and family members wear pink turbans as a sign of respect. Their headgear, on the other hand, is usually simple and plain, with no elaborate embroidery.

At first glance, ethnic Indian clothing may appear difficult and confusing, but it is actually quite simple and straightforward. That is why, even after all these years, Indian men still prefer it. "Clothes make the man," as the saying goes, and the same can be said for any type of clothing, regardless of origin.
