The Green Bay Packers are one of the most storied franchises in the history of the National Football League. The Green Bay Packers have become one of the first teams that come to mind when thinking about the NFL. However, they were not always part of the National Football League.

The Green Bay Packers were established in 1919. There were a few semi-professional football teams in Green Bay that cleared the way for the Packers, starting in the 1890's, but the Packers themselves were not around until 1919.

The team started off as an independent organization in its conception. During 1919 and 1920 the team had no league or affiliation to take part in. The team began playing in Lambeau Field, a field named after Earl Curly Lambeau from the beginning. Lambeau Field has since become one of the most famous places to play in the NFL. It is well known for the high degree of difficulty of play during the icy winter time.

In 1921 the team earned its spot in the American Professional Football Association. This league would go on to become in the National Football League in time. This is still the league that the Green ...
... Bay Packers play in today.

The Packers are so famous around the world in part because they have been the most successful franchise in football history. The two has won an amazing twelve league championships. This total is more than any other team in the history of the National Football League.

Many people do not know of all of this success because nine of the NFL Championships took part before the conception of the Super Bowl. The conception of the Super Bowl did not slow down the Green Bay Packers though.

In Super Bowl I the Green Bay Packers took on the Kansas City Chiefs. This represented a championship game between the AFL and the NFL. The Green Bay Packers were able to show the world that the AFL was the dominant league of the two. The Packers started off strong, scoring the first touchdown of the game.

The Chiefs managed to keep the game close early, closing the half with a score of 14-10. The second half was not the same story however. The Packers managed to dominate on both sides of the ball. They scored 21 points in the 2nd half, while holding the Chiefs to zero points. This marked the first Super Bowl for the Green Bay Packers. Bart Starr was the MVP of the first Super Bowl.

The Packers weren't satisfied with just one though. After winning in year one, the Packers were back for more in the 2nd Super Bowl. The Packers took on the Raiders in Super Bowl II. The Raiders were overmatched in this game. Bart Starr, the Green Bay Packers quarterback, led the way and became the Super Bowl MVP for the Packers as they won 33-14. This was the 2nd Super Bowl MVP for Starr.

This success was not sustained over time however. The team did not make the playoffs for the rest of the 1960s and only managed to make the playoffs once in the 70's and 80's. It wasn't until the greatest player to ever play on their team came that they turned things around for good. Brett Favre joined the Green Bay Packers and changed their fortunes.

Over the 1990's and 2000's the Green Bay Packers have been to the playoffs twelve times! That is an amazing number after not making it more than once in each of the 2 previous decades.

This success includes a Super Bowl Victory in 1996. This victory was their first super bowl since 1968 and completed a full circle of success for the franchise.
