The fit of garments like cotton vests for men has an impact on the customer's purchasing choice. Customers, particularly men and teenage boys, are most concerned with purchasing items that are both well-fitting and fashionable. Although the shapes and styles of the clothes we buy are significant, the right fitting that is based on the person's body structure is the most crucial component that determines the purchasing decision. Clothes are used for more than just physical protection and covering; they also have social and emotional implications. A petite male, for example, wearing clean and properly fitted clothes that are not excessively tight or loose would look more flattering than a tiny woman wearing a tight-fitting non-clean outfit.

The garments that do not reveal any creases, pulls, or extra fluffiness after wearing is of the correct fit. Clothing with properly placed seams, darts, and grain lines also fits well. The significance of correct garment fit varies according to the type of garment. For example, in the case of a tight-fitting dress, even the slightest mismatch is fairly evident and noticeable, however ...
... in the case of loose fitting items, 100% appropriate fit is not required and does not make much of a difference. Even though the fabric is of great quality and the craftsmanship on the dress is excellent, if the fitting is inadequate, the rest is meaningless.

Readymade garment manufacturers

Apart from the customers, readymade garment makers and retailers incur the repercussions in terms of lost time, resources, and goods damage as a result of fitting issue difficulties. Although the issue may appear minor, the seller incurs additional costs as a result of returned clothing, dissatisfaction with the brand, and time spent in trial rooms. The fit of given clothing determines whether it is purchased or rejected. Customer happiness is determined by the design, style, and, most importantly, the fit and size of the garment like premium vests. Apart from visual appeal, the comfort level of well-fitted clothing is preferred. Generally, items that do not fit well sit unworn in our closets the majority of the time.

However, well-fitting clothes do not have to be body-hugging or tight; different sorts of gowns and garments require a different degree of fitting, such as the correct fitting standards for evening wear and nightwear. According to a survey of teenage guys, ready-made outfits do require some alterations, and one is willing to pay a few additional dollars for a better fit.

The most common criteria for judging the fitting size are whether the hemline is even or not, whether the seams on the vertical front are straight, darts that are narrowed and extend before the wide part of the body they are given to shape up, whether the neckline is comfortable, and whether the shoulder seam and waistline seam are in accordance.

The following are the several concerns with the fitting and sizing of prefabricated garments:

Sizing criterion

Before creating ready-made garments in large quantities, each company evaluates the general types of fitting and size that may be provided for a specific population. The main concern of manufacturers and retailers regarding fit is determining which sizes should be produced and how they should be branded. Customers are also affected by the issue of adequate fit because they are directly or indirectly involved in it. As a result, garment manufacturers establish sizing guidelines based on their customer database and retail store information. Because sizing standards differ from one company to the next, customers frequently express discontent with this feature.

Certain garments such as handloom lungi measures are taken into account when determining sizing standards based on garment type. For pants, for example, the waist measurement is the most important component in determining size, whereas, for t-shirts, it is the chest measurement. A garment typically comes in four primary size options: small, medium, large, and extra-large.

Most manufacturers adhere to the sizing and fitting systems of well-known brands, whether designed in their own nation or not. This concept, however, is incorrect because the physical measurements of persons in different countries vary. This issue is very prevalent with foreign brands. As a result, the poor fit is sometimes the result, which eventually leads to customer unhappiness.

To obtain better sizing in readymade garments like south Indian white lungi, it should be defined especially for different countries, as well as varies regionally even within the same country. The sizing guidelines to be followed are also determined by the type of clothing. This would result in increased consumer satisfaction, which would promote sales.

Problems of the standard set for sizing

The fundamental issue with size standards is the disparity between old and new data on human body measurements. The waist and hip ratios of different brands vary greatly, leading to customer annoyance and uncertainty at the time of purchasing. Time is also lost while trying out multiple brands. The fact that the identical size measurement varies between brands is easily revealed.

Multinational garment companies in India do not take into account the physical body structure of Indians. The size charts are created using English and American standards, which is inconvenient. However, Indian sizing standards are being developed.

Body Variations

Sizing standards should be developed for both sexes and different age groups, as a shirt that fits a 30-year-old guy will not suit a 60-year-old man. Body types are categorized as spoon, rectangle, hourglass, pear-shaped, diamond, triangle, inverted triangle, and apple-shaped based on bust, hip, waist, and stomach measurements. Because of the distribution of flesh and fat in a person's body, such classification exists. Thus, even if standard size charts are created, the issue of correct fit will persist in the case of prefabricated garments.
