The Beauty Of A Contemporary Ceiling Fan
A brief history - Ceiling fans first originated in hot, tropical countries with somewhat poor economies. It might sound ironical but it is true that most countries with good economy have done away with ceiling fans for its huge power consumption. However, ceiling fans still find their popularity among people of Asia where hot and humid weather conditions are characteristic of each and every country. Circulation of the air with the help of ceiling fans brings some amount of relief to the people at home.
What does a ceiling fan look like? Ceiling fans have a central motor together with some three to four blades. The motor drives the blades of the ceiling fans which then keep rotating in circular motion. This in turn keeps the air below the ceiling fan to keep circulating. Most rooms in the home will have the ceiling fan to be placed in the middle of the room in order to bring about uniformity of air distribution.
Countries like UK hardly use ceiling fans at all. These countries ...
... are primarily cold places where most houses have their windows sealed and rooms centrally heated. But what happens when even these places face extremely hot and humid conditions? They are left at only nature's mercy. Not only in residential houses, ceiling fans are extremely popular even in outdoor places where artificial structures are erected to house gatherings and other events.
Rajahs and maharajas of India used their servants to fan them using huge cloth piece of cloth. These huge structures where almost always very well decorated with bright colors. Some of these still find their use in some of the Indian temples where devotees fan the deity using these. The reason of their being mentioned is that these and the ceiling fans work on the same principle - circulation of the air. At many of the Indian temples and palaces we still find a huge piece of cloth hung on the ceiling that was manually moved to and fro by the servants when their masters were resting on the bed.
The most striking feature of ceiling fans is that the speed of the blades can be regulated according to the user requirement. So while you can put the ceiling fans in full swing during summer, you can relax comfortably during cool climate with the ceiling fans in the smallest possible speed. Thus the ceiling fan provides the option of making the room aerated at all possible climatic conditions.
The only reason why ceiling fans have not been popular in most first world countries is the reason that they consume huge amount of electricity and hence are uneconomical. Moreover unlike other electronic gadgets ceiling fans have not evolved over the years in terms of design and technology. Hence in the race of electronic gadgets ceiling fans have fallen back time and again. As a result they have failed to capture the market of the first world countries that has been easily won by air conditioners and air coolers.
However, no matter how fast your ceiling fans might spin, they can never be compared to nature's breeze!
