After breaking up with her boyfriend Josh (Nicholas Braun), legal assistant Alice (Dakota Johnson) moves to New York to finally experience the joys of single life. Watch a huge selection of hit movies, from riveting dramas to hilarious comedies and thrilling action, on 9xmovies. Work colleague Robin (Rebel Wilson), a sexy, no-strings-attached party girl, and local bartender Tom (Anders Holm), an unattached bachelor, take her under their wing and decide to show Alice what life is like in the Big Apple.

The big secret is she is pregnant because of the romantic comedy
Meanwhile, Alice's sister Meg (Leslie Mann), an obstetrician and gynecologist, is artificially inseminated and doesn't want a baby for two minutes until she looks at one for thirty seconds, then decides she wants one. Pretty much before the pregnancy test tells her she's pregnant, she meets a handsome young man named Ken (Jake Lacy). She starts a relationship with him, even though she doesn't tell him the big secret she's pregnant because romantic comedies have to be based on at least one lie.

In retrospect, you'll find that How to Be Single is nothing more than a slightly better movie version of Sex and the City. I've never been a Sex and the City fan, so this isn't exactly a compliment. However, despite the dysfunctional clichés, romantic tropes, and too many overlapping characters and plot twists, Slightly Better is ultimately quite entertaining, mostly thanks to the cast. The fact that I could elicit at least one laugh with this film is a miracle in itself.

The movie doesn't promise much but as I said, it has a charming cast
How to be single
Abby Kohn, Marc Silverstein, and Dana Fox - are responsible for Valentine's Day, She Doesn't Like You (Kohn and Silverstein), Escape for a Couple, and What Happens in Vegas (Fox). The film doesn't promise much, but as I said, the charming cast does its best to bring the script, which is based on Liz Tuccillo's novel of the same name, to life. And to be fair to Kohn, Silverstein, and Fox, the pros don't just rely on the actors.

The film manages to entertain as well as inform
There are a few clichés from time to time, but thankfully both they and director Christian Ditter can't play matchmaker with every character until the end of the film, though they do seem to try to make up for those shortcomings. Expect clichés and complexity in the third act, but if you know the recipe for romantic comedies and the film is at least entertaining, it can be endured. Kohn, Silverstein, and Fox stumble through a multitude of subplots trying to come together. How to Stay Single is primarily about Dakota Johnson and Robin Rebel Wilson's Alice (who, to be fair, could be called Rebel Wilson because that's how she plays herself).

A moment or two for the actors to shine for all their flaws
From there, the trio of writers gives us a trio of interconnected characters, some of whom work and some of whom don't. Alison Brie, in particular, is an unfortunate case of the latter. Brie has always been a lively character who lightens the mood in any show or movie, but she never fits into the other characters' stories (though she does have a fun scene with Colin Jost at the train station). How to Be Single gives the actors a moment or two to shine for all its flaws.

The comedy veteran still proves why she belongs
Dakota Johnson, who was the sole savior in Fifty Shades of Grey, continues to prove herself a reliable lead actress, and she endows Alice with plenty of humor and empathy. Rebel Wilson, as mentioned above, is first and foremost herself. Even when Leslie Mann as Meg, Alice's midwife, gets caught up in one of the more mundane subplots (she got artificially pregnant and decided not to tell her new boyfriend, which doesn't come out until months later), the comedy veteran still proves why she belongs in the limelight of the genre.

The man is Demon Vance Jr. Alice as a widow
Women's love is a bit worse, but they have to put up with what is offered. Most underrated of all the men is Damon Wayans Jr. as Alice, a widow who is beginning to find herself, and her daughter has some genuinely touching moments. Jake Lacy does a much better job here than in last year's Love the Coopers, which did the talented actor no favors. Anders Holm radiates charm as Tom, a carefree, lonely bachelor who - big shock - shows feelings in the third act.

The idea that he was playing normally
For a brief moment, Jason Manchoux pleasantly surprised me with the idea that he was playing a normal, uncomplicated role for once. Enjoy exclusive Amazon Originals as well as popular movies and TV shows only on moviesverse. Still, he quickly turned into the predictable cretin I've seen him play a thousand times before.

Thanks to a very talented cast
How to Be Married not only destroys all the clichés of romantic comedies, but it also brazenly swallows them, demolishes them, and destroys them. The film is not as clever as it thinks it is, but thanks to a very talented cast, it is funnier than it should be.
